Subject: obj's

I seem to be having a problem here. It seems that every time I load a new file for clothing, I put everything where it belongs, the thumb nail shows in the libraries, but when I try to open it, I get the error that the obj can't be opened and then the out of memory error. What can I do to change this? The zips I downloaded, came from the free stuff area here.

Check the read me. Sometimes the creator specifies a new folder has to be created within the geometries. I've had this happen as well, and this usually fixes it.

Also, if you don't like where the .obj files are "supposed" to go (having to constantly make new folders under RuntimeGeometries), you can open the .cr2 or .pp2 or .hr2 files in a text editor and type in a new path to wherever you want the .obj files kept.

I have even done that and they still won't open.

At this point, I'd contact the creator.

If there's a .rsr file included with the .obj, try deleting that and opening it again, after closing Poser and re-starting it. You might even want to re-boot. Sometimes .rsr files will mysteriously corrupt themselves. Poser will rebuild it the next time though, so there's no harm in trying. If it's not that,. then yes, there must be something wrong with the .obj-- I think.

I don't know if this is related, but... If the obj in question is one that you previously loaded OK then it is something corrupted or moved since last using it. If it is a NEW obj that you downloaded, it might have been altered to remove copyrighted material - in which case you need the original objs on your system and need to merge the data, and create a new combined obj that has the full information. I'm still new at this myself, so don't know the exact method, but the theory is appropriate.

Also, many items in freestuff require that you already have an existing item that isn't included with the Poser program. Check the readme or any documentation that came with the zip to make sure you have any required products. Hope this helps.

Mac or Windows?

Don't forget that, if you modify the path to the .obj-file in the cr2's, pp2's or hr2's, you will have to do so at TWO different places. If you change it at only one point, Poser still keeps running into the jungle looking for the friggin' .obj-thingy. D.
