Looks to me like they changed the layer style to soft light. I don't think overlay, because there would be lighter bits where the highlights on Shakira's face were. Soft light clips more of the extreme highlights and shadows than overlay does. Try that :o).I don't know personally of any tutorials, although I'm sure there are some. If you happen to have Victoria 3, Ecstasy made some nice textures you could practice on. They're over at Aery Soul. I mean, it's not Victoria 4, but the principle is the same. They are down at the bottom of the page.
I pretty much learned to create skin textures from going over someone elses, just to figure out how to line up all the shadows for around the eyes, nose, etc. DON'T sell or give away a texture you created with the help of someone elses texture tho...I'm talking practice! LOL.

I'm not sure I follow you. Do you mean like displacement morphing? Color me clueless...LOL.
There DID used to be a program, a plugin for Photoshop that would make models out of height field maps. I'll do some searching...

Got access to any programs that do projection painting? It's the easiest way to do what your trying to accomplish.
CS4 Extended, Zbrush, BlackSmith3D, and Blender 2.49 are some off the top of my head that handle projection painting. I'm actually getting more consistent results with less hassles in Blender 2.49 than in the others.
Whoa...you can use Blender to create texture maps?
I have Blender and trying to follow a tut on head modeling.
If my stupid machine will work right now that I had to do a system restore I might actually learn something. :)

Oh yeah! Projection paint is a nice addition in the Blender 2.49 release. Watch the vids here, Covers pretty much everything you need to know to get it done.

It's probably one of the easiest to accomplish tasks you'll ever try in Blender.
If you try it after watching the videos and run into a snag give me a shout. If I can't walk you through it I'll direct you to some other info on using projection renders to create textures.

Hello All,
I'm at the moment trying to make a head texture for Victoria 4 using a real life photo and an existing head texture. The trick is to merge the photo so it blends in with the original base texture. So I got to looking at this film:

And around 1:18, BAM! the photo color blends in with the texture. An explanation would have been nice! How was that done?
Also, does anyone know any good sites/tutorials that takes you through a head texture creation process? There are a lot of great artists here at the galleries that have made a lot of get rendered real-life people.
