Do note that if you're interested in customizing your figure a bit, it isn't very hard to consolidate the polygon groups in the OBJ of a figure using Poser's group editor and re-export the OBJ to a different filename, and then remove the unneeded materials in a copy of the CR2 (not redistributable though, copyrighted material) and point the copy of the CR2 to the copy of the OBJ.

Here is the promised mask - actually a PSD file with an adjustment layer so you can modify the radius easily if you don't like what's there, and two outputs from same in JPG format.

I'll have a couple of samples using it in a minute.

f.ex (the face paint is handled much the same way, with a mask for bump/specularity mixed in to the texture at render time via blender nodes)

The shader setup - everything on the right is what was on the lip zone already, the highlighted portion I added and plugged the existing line going into Alt_Specular into the new Blender node.

Quote - > Quote - You know there is a pretty serious argument against this. Unless you do equally non-easy things, you will be forcing Poser to load an entire 48 megabyte image just for the alternate colored lips. You'd be really taxing your system for no reason then.

While I don't think many people do this, there's a way to just load a crop of the texture and then use the U/V_Scale and U/V_Offset params to position and size the image crop where it needs to be, it doesn't have to be 4000x4000 (takes rather a lot of trial and error though).

Heheh. That is precisely what I meant when I said "Unless you do equally non-easy things".

I've seen a few people try this but nobody did it commercially.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Maybe because such a setup would not work in D|S, at least not before 3.0?  No idea if the new shader blocks are powerfull enough for stuff like this...

Here is what you can have with a lot of mask with victoria 4 ! In this configuration, skin head and lips have the same material zone.

Dont forget the colors

To be honest, the two setups on this page would scare away most users and it also negates using it programs other than Poser.

Actually that setup can be used in other apps, you just need to fool around with their materials settings - even basic D|S can use a blending mask, and Cinema 4D can use a layer shader in any channel with a mask like this (I'm certain other apps can also).  Most casual users just don't poke around in materials settings though.

3dsmax use the mask node since the first version, simply it's not wysiwyg !

Right but Vue, Bryce, DS for the most part and many other setups don't do stuff like this. Plus it it would be very manual which many users don't want.
