Subject: Props which cannot be translated...

Systole ( ) posted Mon, 29 June 2009 at 1:25 PM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 4:49 AM

Hello there,

I think I have seen an answer long ago but I don't know how to ask this...

My problem:

I have "crossdressed" an armor real nice (thx evilinnocence). But know there is a series of parented props appearing in wrong places (like insign on the shoulder or badges). They don't respond to translation, rotation, etc.

How do I 'unlock' them and position them correctly?

Thanks for any help.

Stéphane

try changing the parent to UNIVERSE , position them , and then save them back to the prop library.

Thanks Mark for your answer,
This change was my first and logical try. No result.
Maybe the fact the prop was a freebie  from a german version of poser used in my english version has something to do with the problem?

Possible reasons that a prop would not translate or rotate. 1. The prop is 'Locked'. Unlock it from the Object menu.

  1. The prop is parented to a figure that is locked. Unlock the figure from the Figure menu.

  2. The movement has been constrained by a combination of the 'min', 'max', and 'forceLimits' lines in the affected channels. Use a text editor to edit the file. Edit the code lines in the translate and rotate channels to read:

                        forceLimits 0
                        min -100000
                        max 100000

I think this is the most likely cause of your problem. Note that in order to edit the file it must be in an uncompressed format, e.g  pp2, or cr2, not ppz ,or crz.

  1. The prop has no translate or rotate channels (unlikely). Use a text editor to copy the translate and rotate channels from a Poser primitive and paste them into the prop.

  2. The 'hidden' attribute is causing the problem. In a text editor, set the hidden attribute of the prop to "hidden 0" set the 'hidden' attribute of each translate and rotate channel to "hidden 0".

  3. ERC has been used to "lock" the channels. This is highly unlikely, the solution would be to remove the offending slaving code from the channels.

To the best of my knowledge, the above list is exhaustive. I think point #3 is the most likely cause of the problem. As far as the German version goes, the only thing I can think of that might cause a problem is if the file uses a "," as the decimal seperator, rather than a ".".

Thanks for your so exhaustive answer!
For two props I just find them parented to a locked figured. I will check the channels tonight for the rest.

hidden,  doh  I wish I'd read this yesterday. lol

I 'figured' a few chair props yesterday, they had no parameter dials. (from the promenade and veranda cafe.)

Yes, figures usually have translate channels in all their actors, but most of the translate dials are hidden because the channels use "hidden 1".

Why would they not want us to scale a chair?

makes no sense.

Poser people have to sit on them.

having a bit of dilemma.  the lounge chairs on the promenade deck have chair arms, that should bend with the back rest.  I did get the leg rest to bend nicely.

The rest is beyond my skill level at this point, I can manage only linear props.

The back rest will bend, but it only takes a part of the armrest with it.

True!

A bit hard to visualise from that description, perhaps a couple of pictures? Are the arm rests separate actors?
