I really can't believe no one else knows how important this date is.  Maybe all the other people who know are just too tactful to say anything.

Oooh... so if you're tactful you can't say anything... soooo... you've got to be tactless to know about it... hu?

Seems like what's so important to you, a lot of us don't care about. If we would do so, we would have known.

based on the clues so far, I daresay one can narrow it down a bit: somebody posted something relevant to this thread in the gallery here on aug. 17 of some yr.

So it is obviously not related to Saint Hyacinth's day. Looking back over my vast experience of past August 17th's, and what has been significant to me on those occasions, I can only surmise that it relates to one of the following:

Apple pie with custard?

Chocolate Digestive biscuits?

Natasha Shy's nipples?

I'm probably way off on this one, too.

pjz99 ( ) posted Tue, 07 July 2009 at 3:40 AM

That date keeps popping up in unexpected places in history doesn't it?  Although (one more small clue) August 17th has significance in the past, it also - if the pattern goes on, which I'm sure it will -  will be a big event this year too.  That's three hints now, no more!

There are millions of significant historical events (the number varies, of course, based on each person's definition of significant) and only 366 possible dates in the Gregorian calendar. In all likelihood, there are thousands of events that happened on the past on August 17, especially if you extrapolate the calendar backwards in time to periods before it was in use.

Personally, I'm looking forward much more eagerly to July 20 of this year, an anniversary that has significant appeal to me... not the least reason for which is that I got out of school 40 years ago for the event.

Well... don't tell anyone, but I used to take special classes in the summer, when I was in grade school, doing extra math and science, 'cause I was a geek from a very early age.

However, I still possessed enough of the herd mentality to view a bonus day off from school as a treat.

And, oddly enough, my great grandmother and her daughter-in-law were both born on February 29th.

Pattern! I get it. With Fall and then winter just around the corner in the Northern half of the world, and in full bloom in the Southern half...it's about to get or is currently cooler and then colder outside. August 17th marks the day you plan to release your newest product a tongue sock to keep that puppy warm. And it comes with addon "patterned" textures as a bonus!

If that's not it then the answer has to be on the tip of somebodies tongue. The problem is finding out who that somebody is and having them spit it out! :tongue2:
