Subject: Redistributing Vicki 2 morphs

Eowyn ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 10:09 AM · edited Wed, 18 December 2024 at 3:52 PM

I know we're not allowed to share Vicki2 face morphs except as face poses and such... but I was wondering if it would be okay to share the morphs as .obj if we use the objaction mover and encode them to .pcf using the p4vicki's obj as the seed file??? That way no one who doesn't own Vicki 2 would be able to use the morphs. Just an idea, as I've got a rather nice Vicki face morph which I'd love to share.

"Yes... no... maybe... I don't know. Could you repeat the question?" -TMBG That could work actually, and now that I think about it, it should be fine. But just to be on the safe side, I would highly suggest contacting the folks at DAZ first and asking them. Hope this helps.

That Would Be great, I would Like to share Aylssa but she is highly Vicky 2 and her morphs do not work on p4 Vicky.

Let me ask this, since I'm unclear -- I've created a morph that is nothing like Vicky 2's other morphs, but I've created it with Vicky 2 --can I send out the head I created, which bears no resemblance to any Vicky 2 morph, or is that verboten? Mike

All of your Vickie 2 questions can be answered by the Daz3D FAQ or by their very helpful sales/tech staff. Please consider that before distributing anything to do with Vickie2 FAQ Page http://www.daz3d.com/pages/faq/faq.html

egaeus, if you created the morph using Vicki 2, you can't share the head in any other form than as a face pose file. I think I'll ask the DAZ people about the encoding though.

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 1:46 PM

I would say that encoding them wouldn't matter and would still be a violation. The reason being, Vicki 2 doesn't have a separate .obj--it's still the same ol' .OBJ file as Vicki 1 was. So, even by encoding, though people would have to have the original Vicki .obj file, you'd still essentially be giving out DAZ morphs.

Eowyn ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 2:14 PM

MikeJ, you didn't read my post carefully. I suggested that for encoding we'd use the blVickiP4.obj, and NOT the original Vicki .obj. People who don't have Vicki2 don't have the blVickiP4.obj either.

Oh, I see, and I guess you're right about that. sorry. :)

"use the objaction mover and encode them to .pcf using the p4vicki's obj as the seed file??" Huh?

Eowyn ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2001 at 3:45 PM

Micheleh, that's a method people use when they have to redistribute a copyrighted object - that way they don't violate the copyright and can be sure only the people who own the original object can use the item. You can find the objaction mover in the Free Stuff section. I believe it's only for non-commercial purposes though.

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2001 at 5:48 PM

I'd been wondering that myself, Eowyn. There are morphs I made before I knew you couldn't redistribute that I would love to share, but I can't, because of the restrictions. Which are perfectly logical, but very frustrating.

My understanding is that if the morph is all your own original work with Vickie, either with magnets or a 3D modeling application, and haven't used any of the morph dials in the work, you can export as a morph target, then squeeze the morph, and it is distributable. Victoria 1 and 2 use the same OBJ. VickieP4 is the original Vickie mesh recut to match the P4 woman, so the P4 woman's clothes can be used.

Hi, There seems to have been a lot of interest in this subject of late.We would like to address a question brought up earlier in this thread, as well as some of the other queries we have recieved. DAZ does not condone the use of encoded .pcf files in the distribution of characters for Victoria 2. We believe that this practice would cause a lot of uneeded confusion on what can be encoded, and how it should be encoded, etc. Basically, geometry derived from Victoria 2 specific morphs should not be distributed in any form. PZ2 files are the best way to distribute characters created with Victoria 2 morphs; it's user friendly, it's a smaller file to distribute, it's completely safe to distribute and you don't have to worry about copyright issues, or encoding problems. We do allow distribution of 'Squished' or vertex-only mor phs for Victoria, but only if they meet two conditions: 1) they are based on the original Victoria geometry, 2) they contain only your original work. We describe more about combining squished morphs and PZ2 files in our FAQ. http://www.daz3d.com/pages/faq/faq.html We will also be addressing this in DAZ's Tech Tip for 7/23 with helpful hints and instructions on making a "DAZ Copyright Friendly" Character for distribution. Thanks, AnneMarie White DAZ Productions
