ah any app can subD a tri in to a quad.even D/S
not all app's can subD a tri in to a tri thou
http://64.234.196.28/RK_Tutorial/RK_T_Mix_Sub-D_Tri-Quad.htm
this is a exstream exsample
not nesaseraly a good idea to have you sub D quad your mesh for you.
will rase polycount *4
topolagy might not be what you need

RorrKonn: If you ever come across the formula for repositioning the vertices where triangles and quadrangles meet, let me know. I'd be highly interested. Not for organic modeling, because I think Catmull-Clark is sufficient for that, but I've got other applications were that mixed algorithm would be really useful.

P8 Ryan come with three Head morphs:

IMHO Ryan comes with a very generous helping of morphs as well.

Quote - poser 8 is already out?
No, not at all. Mariner is also a Beta tester.
SM has given other testers freedom from the NDA. Some others are now allowed to say things, not just me.
That's why PhilC is able now to say things about WW in Poser 8.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Do you want to try my simple portrait light set? I can post it here.
Also, try using some of the better shaders included in the materials library. This is Tomo with the Tomo_Shiny shaders and my lights.

some renders of poser 8 meshes posed would be kool.
mainly curious about shoulders and hips.
so we can see how well the new rigs work :)
a wireframe of the mesh and a polycount would be kool also .

Quote - I'm interested to see how DAZ responds to the extensions of Poser's rigging features when version 8 is released. Obviously a whole lot of people won't upgrade (there are still people out there using Poser 4 after all) but I think they'll be releasing Poser 8 enhanced versions of their figures as soon as they can, if they're smart.
Do you think there's money in that? Would those figures have clothes?
It's not the tool used, it's the tool using it

When you subdivide a mesh using Catmull-Clark or similar methods, the vertices from the original mesh don't stay where they are. They get different positions in the subdivided mesh. There's a formula that determines where they go. That's the tricky part of the whole subdivision method. If you don't get that formula right, you don't get a smooth surface. I can subdivide triangles into triangles and quads into quads until the cows come home. But I don't know the right formula that tells me where to put the triangle vertices.

What app are you modeling in now ?
Can wings sub D a tri in to a Tri now ?
i have never herd of this formula.
sub D'en the mesh the vertices get moved a little bit in all the app's.that i know of.
thay come out with so many new apps n plugs i can not keep up with every thing, thou i do try.
i so want 3D to make it past the stone age.
i no when u sub D close thay shrink in to the base mesh.
i would guess people that make close would be the most motavated for this formula
i would ask the merchents
thay have there own forms

Of course, but it's been 3 years that the default lights (from Poser 4) should have been dropped. They were made to give a warm tone to the figures before shaders did the work properly, but now they just make everything look orange. Poser 8 includes pretty good shaders and I consider anything that comes with Poser 8 to be out of the box.
Poser 8 also includes a bunch of new studio light sets, although I found the IBL in them to be a little strong when rendering with tone mapping. Always render with HSV Exponential turned on. If the result looks too hot and flat, then decrease the IBL intensity a bit.
In my opinion, using the default lights, shadows disabled, and no tone mapping is tantamount to trying to make things look bad. :) You're basically still using Poser 4 then. I'm not suggesting you tweak the hell out of everything like I do, but at least a couple clicks from the library is called for, and it is still out of the box.
I have to travel today, but later I'll post my lights.

Can you guys take the sub-D discussion into its own thread? This one is already too full for people to follow and sub-D is not part of any Poser, let alone Poser 8.

You can set it up however you like. For example, here's it arranged to be like the Poser 7 UI: tools, lights and camera on the background shell, document and paramters floating and the library docked to the right.
It certainly wasn't my intention BB.
Maybe this one is slightly more to your idea?

I like the fact that the tool palettes can be made more compact now. Whether I make them horizontal or vertical, I can never find a good place for them in the present UI.
Will every room have it's own layout as in older Poser versions, or is there a way to say that, say, the library should be docked at the right side in every room?
-- I'm not mad at you, just Westphalian.
Stefan - great render! That should be on the web site.
There's seems to be a failure to comprehend about the space issue, despite repeated explanations that you can move and size everything as you like.
Some seem concerned that the library is bigger than it used to be. Here's my response:
1) If you only care to see 5 to 7 items at a time (as was shown in somebody's screen shot of previous Poser) then by all means shrink the library down vertically so it only shows 5 at a time and stack it vertically with the parameters. Now you have MORE space than ever before, while being able to see the same amount of content.
It is 2009, almost 2010. I respect that some people cannot upgrade their hardware due to financial concerns. But 1024x768 is not the norm anymore. I think it's nice that the UI takes advantage of the screens I actually use. Your mileage may vary.
The layout is static only if you run it that way. That's your mistake if you do that. Learn to use the UI layout dots. To me, the Pose room is really two rooms. The Loading Pose room, and the Tweaking Pose room. When I'm loading, I want the library big. I want search. I want fast access to my favorites. I want simultaneous visiblity across runtimes, without having to navigate up, up, up, over, down, down, down. The library GUi remembers where you've been before - it saves a lot of time. In other words, it was redesigned to speed your workflow. That means you should only have it up when loading things is part of your workflow. Not using it? Put it away with a single click. Need it again? Bring it back with a single click, exactly in the state it was, with everything open, everything you found recently, etc.

To me new Poser characters don't look very tempting,so I think I have to go into a lot of morphing action untill they will look like real beauties.Or I have to use Sydney and Miki2.--- How easy do you think it is to update G2 people with the new Poser 8 rigging .Will it break their mesh and all morphs are useless?Or is it like adding little helpers to their joints?

It shouldn't hurt the figures but it seems to me it could cause their clothes to not fit.
edit:
You could give it a shot even now, since it's not like the G2 people have flawless rigging in the first place.

Quote - Will WW analyze altered rigging? I assume it just trusts its support packs.
I think it does. When I have a character, I convert all of the morphs into a full body morph (FBM) & have WW analyze it. When I convert clothing, I tell the program to include FBMs, & it puts my FBMs into the clothing & voila!
This get's interesting as it goes along.

A morph doesn't change the rigging does it?
There are plebty of built in morphs for Alyson and Ryan for you to start off with.

but have they fixed the OBJ artifacting? - as shown in the topic linked...Quote - Mariner, did you cut & paste those? or can you have the box look like that for real?
Right now I am doing a Cut & Paste just to show all of the morphs.
Honestly, I haven't tried what you are asking. Maybe BB can chime In?

How about a list of the full body and partial body morphs?? By the way, thanks for the head morph lists. They did a great job making sure there are enough options to really tweak these meshes pretty good.
I do have to say that I don't care for the Asian Male morph, he looks really strange to me! Koji was a handsome devil!!
