OK, not everything done but now people can enter in the CarraraWorld.com and begin to know other users:

http://www.carraraworld.com

I hope that all like the new idea and share more information, images and videos in a more easy way them ever. Just one thing: dont create groups that you never will use!!

I invite developers of any software that can be used with Carrara to create a Group so peole can know more about them.
Sites like Renderosity, 3DCommune and others are welcome to create your Groups too!

Have fun and welcome to CarraraWorld.com http://www.carraraworld.com Marcelo Teixeira and welcome to CarraraWorld.com

Will Carrara lounge stay active?

GKDantas ( ) posted Tue, 04 August 2009 at 10:02 AM

Hi SuePoser... I still really dont know.
The problem with CarraraLounge is the software used that need a lot of work to be running and updated... and really we need another forum?
So I am cleaning CarraraLounge, cutting the store and the Showroom, so people can navigate very more easy. mI think that in some time in the future CarraraLounge will redirect to CarraraWorld.
Do you have any suggestion what we could do??

I think it is best to keep it to one site. Whichever system is the easiest for you is the best for everyone.
Definitely, the CarraLounge site should redirect. There are many references to CarraraLounge in the forums and we want people with questions to know where to go  :)
Thanks for running the site. I know it is a lot of work, but it benefits many users.

Thanks SuePoser... that swill be the future of CarraraLounge for shure... but lets wait to see how people will see the new site too. I really dont want to have to work in to websites with the same subject.

I would recommend One Main site, decomission carraralounge, but keep it as an Archive a lot of usefull information there.

Have you thought about using vBulletin for forums software? I use it on multiple sites that I run, it is very robust and its the way to go.

HI, yes I had a lok a lot of software but my first idea was to create a real community so people could easy interact, not another forum, but SMF was what I found to be close what I had in mind... Now I am using a new software really close to my first idea.
About content I will try to port information (not the galleries) to the new site.

That is the point of forum software, just take a look at http://www.cosforums.com/

Software like phpBB and vBulletin have been around for many many years, and are well designed.  Its great that you want to customize something.  Personaly, I stay away from sites that use custom made forums, Renderosity forums is borderline.

As I run my own site and also set up CMS's for other people if you need a hand Marcelo let me know. I've been hosting my own site with IXWebhosting, they have a zillion CMS scripts where I litterally  picked, installed, tested, almost all the software available, including BBS's and many portal systems.

By the sounds of it you are trying to make an information site, which is a great idea. I like the blog system, I'm currently just posting things that I've been working on and presenting some ideas through your blogs. If everyone has the time to post a blog blurb on approaching ways of working within Carrara, you will have quite a site full of inspiration and a place to bolster new users into using Carrara effectively.
Personally I feel the Carrara manual is quite "thin", if it wasn't for Mark creating tutorials, I would have taken eons to figure this software out. We need as much information out there so new users won't become discouraged.

I agree with this statement, when I go through the Carrara manual, it tells you how to do something but does not explain why or how you can do other things.

I run CarraraLounge for about one year now and it have a lot of video tutorials created by me and other users... but now Youtube accept HD videos and this make the life more easy: you can upload in just one place and show everywhere.
The problem with SMF was that its a forum script (I also had a lot of plugins for it), but very hard to run alone. In thsi new software, everyone can handle your own content very easy and interact more with other users... i Hope!

It is actually very easy on your site, I've just been uploading images to my own site and linking them into your blog system, just to save you some bandwidth.
My own favourite CMS is now Wordpress, I found running a forum just invited a lot of spammers which was unfortunate.

I used wordpress for a long time too. CarraraLounge was first a wordpress, but people just could add comments to the posts (the gallery for wordpress that time was very frustanting for more them one user). Now theres a version for wordpress that add social network too that looks good, but Elgg looks more better designed for community... You can post your images at CarraraWorld, my hoster give me unlimited bandwidth.
