Subject: Poser 8 - I can only save the right hand as a pose ?

wenke ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 5:15 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 1:51 PM

Perhaps, someone can test it...

I wanted to save the left hand as a pose... I go to the hand library ... Click on +, the New set window pops up

click ok

click ok. However, Poser does not ask which hand I want to save, so only the right hand is saved as a hand pose. Could that test somebody for me? Thanks

Wenke

Same here, even if the left hand is selected.

Thanks Dizzi for testing, thats a bad thing. :o(

What happens when you apply the pose?
Does Poser ask if you want to apply the pose to the right or left hand?

Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

Yes, but Poser only applies the pose to the right hand. If I choose the left, nothing happens.

You're correct, P8 is only saving the right hand channels to HD2 files, but this is normal (look in any HD2 file, I also checked some from P7).

If you need to save the left hand specifically, make use of a subset when saving a ordinary pose (PZ2) file.

wenke ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 6:36 AM

But nruddock, in the previous Poser versions one could still select the hand which one wanted to save. And even if I save the hand as a normal pz2 and copy it to the hand library (renamed to hd2), only the saved hand is changed.

I think what's happened is that they've removed the choice on saving because Poser only saves the right hand data (IIRC there used to be a problem when applying data saved from the left hand).

It's obvious that the logic involved has gone astray (they've followed a chain of reasoning in the wrong direction).

Another bug.  Need to report this. Thanks for finding it.

ratscloset ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 9:28 PM

Poser will not ask you which hand when saving, since Hand Poses are universal. On XP 64, but not on Vista, I did encounter a message applying the Pose to the Left Hand, but the Pose applied correctly.

I will add, that no matter if I posed the left hand or the right hand and saved to the Pose Library, they worked.

This might be specific to a figure.

If you are creating the Pose on the Left Hand, try creating it on the Right(or use Symmetry to move it to the Right to Save and see if the issue is still there. There is a bug with saving poses created on the Left Hand for some figures.

Thanks ratscloset, but all was fine with creating hand poses for V4 in Poser 6.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 9:39 PM

 I tried it with Alyson.Didn't.work.

wenke ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 9:48 PM

Thanks EClark for testing this with Alyson.

The way Poser saved Hand Poses changed in Poser 7.

I can still save Hand Poses, but I must use the Right Hand of the Figure when Saving. That Hand Pose will work on either hand of the Figure.

If I create the Pose using the Left Hand, I did find and report an error.

If you still get an error, contact Support with the details to duplicate. Include System details, it may be specific to the OS.

I tested on Vista and the Right Hand Poses saved correctly and even though on some I got an error message using the Pose on the Left Hand, it still properly posed the left hand.

Thanks ratscloset, I'm on XP... I always saved my hand poses with PoseWritePremium from Netherworks, so that I have no morph informations in my hand poses. But now, the new saved left hand poses don't work with the right hand anymore. So I will report this to SM.

Thanks all for the workarounds! I just spend 30 minutes posing a left hand and lost it all. Frustrating!

And these are just some of the reasons why I keep my Poser 6 installed.

Are we actually talking about saving into the Pose folder or the Hands folder?  The Hands folder definitely asks which hand to select upon saving.

moriador ( ) posted Sun, 05 June 2011 at 12:54 AM

Hmm.

I have a runtime full of hand poses, for both hands, created by a variety of merchants. Not a single one has ever worked on the left hands of any of my Daz figures. These left hand hand-poses always change the right hand. I assumed this was just a limitation of the software.

It's a bug? Wow. Would be nice if it were fixed.
