THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce 5 Recall?

dcasey0284 ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2001 at 12:38 AM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 6:04 PM

I live in Taiwan and was interested in the upgrade for Bryce 5. When I tried to find out the local price for the upgrade (usually x2 the US price), I was told by the local distributor that Corel has found some major bugs in the program and is recalling it. Has anyone else heard about this? I've checked the Corel site and there is no notice (not that there would be necessarily). Also, I don't think I've ever heard of a software recall. An emergency patch, perhaps...but a recall? Doc

There are some bugs in bryce 5 "like with all software" nothing major though.I havn't heard of a recall or patch

There is no recall that I know of. No major bugs either so far, I also checked with a few beta testers and no major bugs to report from them. You can check corels news group, but again there is no major bugs reported there or recalls. Hope this helps

The only thing I can think of is that their serial numbers for Bryce 5 upg, do not always allow you to enter the bryce 4 serial number, and you must call Corel to get a new generic 5 serial number. Which means that all 5 Upgrade users will have the same serial number. Good Job Corel!!

griggs ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2001 at 2:19 PM

Actually the serial number you get from corel is only the upgrade serial number. Your version of Bryce 5 will have its own unique serial number. Bryce 1,2,3 and early bryce 4 numbers need to call, I was lucky and my B4 number worked ok.

Mine doesn't, When I called Corel with the issue, they gave me a new Bryce 5 Serial number that did not ask for the Previous serial number. She told me this was a generic does all serial number and implied that it was the same one they give to everyone who calls! hehe I bought the Meta Bryce 4 when it first was released, so that is probably why. My Bryce 5 Upgrade serial is not even used. Shieshk!

The problem is only with 'some' serial numbers, not all of them. There hasnt been a recall(best I know of). Its a goof, I know, but things like this happen once in awhile. Corel is expediant in correcting the problem by supplying a new serial number to those who need it, although it might be generic, it does its job and allows the upgrade. You still have a unique serial to use for registration purposes. Ken

weird I had to enter two serial numbers one for B5 and one for B4. I think you are right maybe they are holding it back for overseas till they can get this fixed. I would think that some people would need to spend a large amount of money to get a call through corels tech support overseas.

This is interesting. Now I don't know if my Taiwan distributor is giving me the run-around, or if Corel is giving my Taiwan distributor the run-around. There are actually FOUR distributors listed for Taiwan. I can't get a straight answer, so far, from any of them. I haven't even gotten to the serial number issue yet. Ain't this fun? ;-) Doc

Business as usual: rumors and a faint support for customers overseas not wanting to wait until localized versions are out. I switched to e-on software's Vue d'Esprit 3 (and now 4) and am no longer missing my buggy Bryces (which I had since version 2.xxx up to early 4 for Windows). Nevertheless I shall try what Corel has added some day when prices are falling. marcomeyer

dcasey sometimes software companies take a while to get overseas versions out. If I remember right the german version wasn't due out till august sometime. Hope you get your answers soon Bryce 5 seems very stable to me so far, I think you will enjoy it.

Well, I officially confirmed with all FOUR distributers of Bryce in Taiwan that Bryce 5 is being recalled from the market because of "bugs" in the program. And I'm talking about the English version here. So if you've got Bryce 5, be aware that according to the distributors in Taiwan you have a defective copy! (This is, obviously, a load of BS). So, I've given up on buying it here and bought it online from a U.S. company that ships internationally. BTW, try VUE4. I am yet to be convinced that B5 is going to come close, but we will see what we will see. Doc
