Subject: Poser 8 Hair Problem...Help Please

GrandmaPaula ( ) posted Sat, 08 August 2009 at 11:27 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 9:14 PM

Hello everyone. I was lucky enough to get the Poser 8 Full from CP at their special $1.99 price. Woot!. But.....

No matter what hair I use, when I click to apply a texture (pose) to the hair, I get the dreaded pop up telling me it could not load the texture and something about not enough memory.

I would get that occasionally (not much) in poser 7. But now in Poser 8, I get it every single time. Can anyone please help me?

As far as I know, everything else loads fine (but I havent played with it much because of the hair problem)

TIA

Paula

GrandmaPaula ( ) posted Sat, 08 August 2009 at 11:43 PM

The exact message is:

Texture could not ne loaded.
Image map could not be found or there is not enough memory to load.

I used Windows Vista Home edition

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 12:14 AM

Sounds like it just can't locate the texture. Have you tried to locate them manually?

Laurie

Shoot, same thing when I add clothes. Same exact message.

It doesnt give me that option. Not sure how to do it directly from poser 8

bagginsbill ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 12:32 AM

Is this a Poser 8 item or something in an external runtime?

When you hover over the item, what path is given?

Where is the missing texture actually located?

You can go into the material room and open the nodes where the textures are attached (if they aren't already open) and get to them that way.

GrandmaPaula ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 1:38 AM

I am not sure.

I tried reinstalling it but that didnt work either.

So now I am going to try again.

I didn't install the Poser content and the legend content. Would that make a difference? Because i was told that it is a bunch of old stuff that I won't need.

I am using V4 and used the AS fairy skin texture and those loaded fine and rendered fine.

But the clothes and hair textures wont load. Even if I load a hair or clothing item from figures that already has a texture on them when they load, I get that message.

So I am assuming anything else (like props, etc) will result with the same message.

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 3:08 AM

Was the default directory used during the install?

GrandmaPaula ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 3:17 AM

Ithink so. I clicked next whatever it chose

Now I have all the Poser 8 thingsi n one folder on an eternal drive (That is where I downloaded the zips and unzipped them)

Then I installed Poser 8 onto my main C drive and left it alone.

I hope I dont HAVE tohave the Poser content and legend content installed because for some reason it will not installed even though it was selected to install. After Poser 8 completes installation, I get 2 pop up messages. One saying the legend content did not install and the poser content did not install (and that they were not found). Weird because I did exactly whay the PDF instrustion said to do (for unzipping, installing, etc)

I just do not get it.

Give yourself admin rights for Windows XP (if you haven't already) and tell Poser 8 that you are installing it for all users, not just for your account.  Do the same for the content.

If the content still doesn't install, you may have a corrupted download.  Download it again.

Oops.  I saw HOME listed and didn't see VISTA.

Vista has its own admin setting that can cause install problems.  The UAC needs to be disabled.

To turn off UAC

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
  3. In the User Accounts window, click User Accounts.
  4. In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off.
  5. If UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears. Click Continue.
  6. Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click OK.
  7. Click Restart Now to apply the change right away, or click Restart Later and close the User Accounts tasks window.

Ok then do I reinstall Poser 8 again?

And I havent been unistalling it when I do that. I dont know how. I thought maybe when reinstalling it, it will overwrite the original? Am I wrong?

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 3:29 AM · edited Sun, 09 August 2009 at 3:30 AM

It's best to remove the software using the Poser 8 uninstall.  Should be listed under Poser 8 in the Start Menu.

ok will give this all a try. I will be back to let you know if it worked.LOL. Thank you so much for your help.

By The way, the Alyson hair that comes with her loads fine and renders fine.

Also, it said the poser 8 content (and legend) did not install, but yet Alyson and Ryan and the dog, etc are there. So does that mean it did install even though it said it didnt? LOL Weird thing.

You may have to uninstall the content also and re-install it after you get Poser 8 back on.

Another question

I have Poser 7. Do I copy  Poser 7's MAIN runtime  and paste it into Poser 8's main runtime?

Or

Do I just add it along with my external runtimes in Poser 8?

I havent opened Posr 8 yet

None if it worked. Still the same messages.

I think me having Poser 8 is not meant to be.

And to top it all off, I have no idea why, but after removing poser 8 and all of its other stuff, it removed some things from my Poser & runtimes. I just dont get it

Don't copy the Poser 7 Runtime to the Poser 8 Runtime. Just add the Poser 7 Library as another Poser 8 Library.

Also, you don't have to install either the Poser 8 Content or the Legacy content to use Poser 8 with your old content Libraries. Just ignore the messages telling you that you have not installed them. I think the Poser 8 installer includes the Poser 8 figures, and the Poser 8 Content installer is all the extra third party content. Not sure about this, but it would make sense of what you are seeing.

You mentioned copying runtime content. This is a big nono.

You can copy Library content but copying the entire Runtime will destroy your Runtime as it includes software components.

This is another reason I make the distinction. Library is not the same as Runtime. You can copy, overwrite, delete, whatever any library even the main one. You do that to a runtime and you're dead.

Also, if you copied, you may have accidentally moved, not copied. Thus when you un-install, you remove things.

So, does that mean I need to install all the stuff that needs to be in the main Poser 8 runtime, instead of just moving it from the Poser 7 main runtime?

Also, I was told I could add my external runtimes that I use in Poser 7, and add them (link them) to my Poser 8.

It is those that wont load the textures of the clothes or hair and stuff.

Sorry if I seem thick. I am not savvy to all this.LOL

Thanks for all the help

Yes, you're problem may have still been there, but if you plop the Poser 7 runtime on Poser 8's runtime you'll break Poser 8! I speak from experience...lol ;o). And BB is just trying to keep you from doing that, no matter what your other problems are.

LOL, I understand and no I didnt put my Poser 7 runtime into Poser 8. Thank God.LOL. I was just wondering if I could. I have uninstalled Poser 8 again. I just don't know what else to do. Poser 7 still works, but I was so looking forward to the new Poser 8. I am glad I didn't pay full price for it. What I did see of it, it looks pretty good. But just before I uninstalled it the 3rd time, i tried it once more and now the skin textures are giving me that message. So now skin, clothes and hair textures, wont load.LOL. I followed the exact instructions, too.Sigh.... I know it has to be something I am doing (or not doing) But I can't fgure it out. I didn't have this problem with Poser 7.

But thatnk you everyone for trying to help me out. I totally appreciate it. More than you know...

No Content should need to be in a specific Runtime. This was true in Poser 7 as well.

Subject Poser 8 Hair texture not loading   ** Discussion Thread** ** Response (Matt Ko)** 08/13/2009 09:05 AM Thank you for running the test.

Since the Poser 8 textures work, this means that it is not an overall issue, but rather something specific to the textures in the external runtimes.

Here's another test to try. If you still have your Poser 7 installed with the original Poser 7 runtime, attach that original Poser 7 runtime to your Poser 8 as an external runtime. Then load the Figures > CP Partners > VanishingPoint > Banshee ship. Now go to Poses > CP Partners > VanishingPoint and apply either the arctic or navy textures to the Banshee ship, and see if this will work or not (keeping in mind that slower systems may take a moment to load the new texture).

If it does not work, then this will confirm that it is an issue with external runtimes not being able to load their texture files, and we will need to look into your setup in more detail.

But if it does work, then it will mean that the problem is not an external runtime issue at all, but likely has to do with the third party textures that you are using, and we will need to look further into that instead. ** Customer** 08/12/2009 04:59 PM hello,
Yes the textures in the Poser 8 librairies work fin. It is the external runtimes that will not work. No skin textures, no clothes textures, no hair textures.
They all work fine in my poser 7, but not in Poser 8.

When I first installed Poser 8, the figure (V4) skin textures worked (or at least the one I used), but then I had rto uninstall Poser 8 and reinstall it. Then the skin textures would not work (External runtimes) As of right now, I have Poser 8 unistalled until I can find a solution.

I have WIndows Vista and the current IE browser. I have searched the web looking for a solution and so far, no one that I have seen, has this problem.LOL. I do get a pop up when installing poser 8 asking me for permission, and I give it permission. Should I just turn of the permission until after I get it installed and running correctly? I thought by clicking yes on the permission pop up, that I was allowing the full install. Not sure if that is the issue or not.

Thank you so much for your time, I really do appreciate it.

Paula ** Response (Matt Ko)** 08/12/2009 02:47 PM If no textures work at all, not even the built-in Poser content, then that may suggest an issue on your system - perhaps a permissions issue blocking Poser from accessing the directories that it needs to.

First, do this quick test for me. In the Poser 8 Props library, load the Battle_Bob prop from the Poser 8 > CP Partners > VP location. This should load a blue Battle_Bob into your scene.

Now go to the Pose library and go to the Poser 8 > CP Partners > VP > BattleBob location. Load either the red or the yellow Battle_Bob texture and see if it loads or not (not that slower computers may need to take a moment to load the texture).

That was the last email so far.

Just to note, I dont think it is an issue with third party textures, because i am sure that not EVERY single testure will have this issue. I have tried many different ones from various external runtimes and I get the same result each time.

So as of right now, Poser 8 is not installed.

I'm beginning to wonder now if your Poser libraryprefs.xml file is corrupt. Hmmmm....

I know nothing about Poser 8, but I know Poser 7's gets corrupted from time to time.

Anyone else? I'm beginning to think this is her problem.

Now, don't take my word for it alone. I don't know anything about Poser 8, I just know that Poser 7's corrupt libraryprefs.xml file affects external runtimes. And since it's those you are having problems with..... I truly don't even know where Poser 8's file is located. Only Poser 7s.

Hopefully bagginsbill will come along and give his thoughts - or anyone else more familiar with Poser 8 and the way it runs for that matter.

just a thought. I have some poser files that wont load. turns out that if you change the extension to lower case, everything works fine. Not sure if this also applies to the textures but you might take a look.

Have you tried re-installing the hair and clothes content items to your P8?

Poser had  a certain search order when it looks for files, but I forget what it is.

And I am trying to avoid installing one by one, all my poser stuff because I have gazzillions of items. Would take my 5 years, non stop,  to install one by one.LOL.

All I know is they work perfect in poser 7, but not 8.

I have the texture problem with files that I saved in Poser 7. I checked the files and the texture maps in the files had the correct reference path. While this problem never happened with skin textures but only with clothes and hair maps I am believing it has something to do with transparency mappings. Maybe false since skin maps have transparency maps for eyelashes too but as long as nobody has these problems with skin textures the reason must to be found there.

Yes, I could do that but, I have way too much stuff to put in my main poser 8 runtime. It would bog it down something horrible.( and take 5 years for me to install.LOL) And any improvements with poser 8, are not good enough for me to have to go through THAT much trouble.LOL. But thanks.

Yes, thank you, it helps. But I'm still clueless why this happened to the hair textures.
