Black_Star ( ) posted Thu, 13 August 2009 at 5:57 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 12:56 AM

Hi!

I have read about problems that the libraries in Poser 8 have, meaning they are not showing up in the main interface.I have understant they are using Flash Player 7 in order to display the contents of the library?!?! Why is that? And how can such a problem be solved? Because it is very anoying for the libraries not to show up.
Thank you in advance!

Best regards!

According to Bagginsbill, who wrote a lot of that interface, you ought to get in touch with Smith Micro technical support, they have some tricks that may help you:

I think they specify Flash 9 or 10.

Why? Because the library system uses Adobe Air:

*"The Adobe® AIR™ runtime lets developers use proven web technologies to build rich Internet applications that run outside the browser on multiple operating systems."

In other words, it's a way of getting web-based applications to run on the desktop, and it requires a web browser and the Flash player to work.

Smith Micro is working on the issue for those few users that are experiencing it. I encourage everyone with the issue to contact Smith Micro Support with the subject Blank Library in the incident so you can be added to the list (which currently is only 7 users) It most likely is a security setting or corruption of the installation, but there are some things to try that have allowed the majority of the users to resolve this issue when encountered.

Rats can you tell us what to try or where I can go look up what these tricks are?  I'd rather not have to wait until I'm emailed back from Smith Micro to find out how to fix this problem.  It's already taken 6 hours to get Poser 8 to just open up for me.  I've been using Poser since Poser 5 and I've never had this much trouble getting an edition of the program to work.  I had Poser 7 running with my 50gb Poser 6 Runtime almost immediately when it first came out.

There is a thread here quoting what is sent users that have contacted Support..

It would help if you could let us know what did work.. it may give some insight into where to focus looking for a solution or cause for those others.

What worked for me was updating flash.  My library then disappeared again after closing and reopening Poser.  Fixed the problem again by not sicking my firewall on poser.  So now it's working well.

Rats, thanks for giving out so much help... I've seen a lot of your posts helping people...

Small clarification. The library GUI is not using Adobe AIR, but is using Adobe Flex. AIR is for standalone desktop applications. The GUI is a standard Flex/Flash application, running in an internet browser, which is running inside Poser.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
