You can have external runtimes, but they must be on same drive to work.
For example:
D:program filese-frontierposer 6runtime
D:program filessmith microposer 7runtime
D:program filessmith microposer 8runtime
This problem is known since P7 but was never fixed. Another workaround is merge all runtimes to a big one. (that was I did)

Hello there ;)
I have Poser 8 freshly installed (comming from Poser 6) and seem to run in a bit of problem with external runtimes while importing in Vue complete.
Most of my runtime is located in:
C:program files (x86)e-frontierposer 6runtime
but some of my new runtimes (and all of them in the future) will be located under:
d:runtimes
At the moment, in "d:runtimes", there are 2 sub runtimes (cookie and scenes).
When I used Poser 6, I could import Cookie with no problem into Vue. Just by saving the pz3 and importing in vue, it would find everything back.
Now, I tried the same in Poser 8 and Vue couldn't find Cookie anymore ( or any other thing outside of the "c:program files (x86)e-frontierposer 6runtime" folder.
Anyone know if there is some trick to solve this?
Many thanks,
Andro
