Is it dia de los muertos yet? I thought that was usually later in the year. Anyway, hi great-grandparents! Very nice of you to visit.

Sit, sit2 and split are legs and hips only, "hands behind head" and "hands on breasts" are arms only. The rest should be full body, if I recall correctly.

Here's a better look at him. I'm really a novice at attempting something like this, but I wanted to try. I don't think he turned out TOO bad.... (Edit: Of course the texture is borrowed... as can be seen readily enough by the eyebrows, which don't look very masculine!) :)

Thanks, RamWolff. I think the head shape itself is pretty much where it needs to be, but the texture is obviously betraying it. I'll perhaps make some alt textures that go with the set (can't remember whose it is offhand - BluEcho's, I think) that will change the eyebrows and lips to something more masculine.

Unfortunately, it's a long time since I did a morph for Antonia... I think at one point I had it figured out, but right now what I have isn't properly distributable. Antonio is kind of acting for Antonia's body - I used an odd script I think. So I'm having difficulties getting a proper Cr2. I did the sculpting in Argile, then did some additional scaling in Poser itself.

Thanks, Laurie. Those kind of hips are pretty common on men, but I actually just finished doing a little bit more sculpting, including bringing them down a bit further. I also tried to make the abdomen a bit more manly - that particular way the belly line was protruding didn't quite look masculine to me.

I'll hack away and try to post something further, but I've got a busy day, so we'll see.

I quite like Argile, mostly because I get lost in the "real" 3D apps like Blender, Wings etc. I just don't know where to begin. With Argile, I was up and running in a couple minutes the first time I opened it up - very intuitive, although I'm sure it's not as powerful as the big boys.

That looks really great, Believable3D. The only thing I didn't find entirely convincing in the first version was the position of the nipples. The new version might need some work in the chest area as well. But impressive work, overall. I have a thing for androgyny and didn't mind the makeup or the arching eyebrows at all, by the way.

Oh, and he doesn't need male genitals. From what I hear,  the typical thing for trans-men is to get the hormones and the chest reconstruction surgery and keep their original bits intact because 'the operation' really isn't all that appealing, apparently. Why should Antonio be better off? 😉

RAMWolff: Eh, yeah, I see what your "original" comment was driving at now. I'm a little thick.

I actually like the way this morph turned out better than my previous one, even though when I first opened up the new Antonia and started sculpting, it seemed like she was harder to sculpt than the previous iteration. I guess I just needed to get used to the subtle differences. I think I did manage to get the chest area a bit better, especially around the nipples.

odf: Heh. I wasn't attempting to create a transgendered character, just a male counterpart. This version, I think, is a bit more convincing in most respects. I'm not a modeller, though, and this was pretty ambitious by my standards. I enjoy sculpting faces, and to some degree bodies... but that's never involved changing the gender before.

I did finally get pmd to work for the morph, but for some reason the resulting morph ends up with those "magnet balls" (I'm so good with technical terms LOL) visible in the render.

I'd send you the .obj file, except that I've got a bit of an issue with the underarms (no surprise, given the twin facts that I don't have a clue what I'm doing, and also made the chest considerably larger) - though in truth I think it looks worse in preview than in render. At least at his angle; I'd need to test more angles/positions.

You mention the chest could use some work. What do you suggest?

I should probably work on these fixes before I finalize a morph. If you have any tips for how to accomplish moving the shoulders outward while using the default pose would be appreciated. I suppose I could lower the arms (in Poser), hide them and try to morph the shoulders that way, but I have very little experience with Poser's own morphing tools.

PapaBlueMarlin: That's a great render!

Yep! Sorry about that. I'll see if I can insert the dependency via a pose file, so I don't have to upload a whole new cr2.

As for Antonio: could you show a frontal or semi-frontal view of his whole chest? It's a bit hard to judge from what I've seen so far.

Changing the x-scale of the chest might help widen it without compromising the bends, but I'm not completely sure of that. Some people say scaling body parts is evil, but I don't see how else one would go about changing a figure's proportions while keeping the rig intact.

PS: About the balls. Do the "handles off" and "handles don't render" poses still work on Antonio? They should.

RAMWolff, when doing FBMs, I don't export from Poser, as a rule. I work from a copy of the original .obj.

odf, sure. I've been doing renders of the head, so will do his chest next.

I hadn't needed to use a pose injection to have handles invisible for Antonia renders before, IIRC. So I didn't think to look for them. Will check now.

Here are the head shots. This time I used the Toni texture set; the eyebrows are more appropriate (though with "Antonio 2" I also morphed the brow to sit more horizontal, as well). He's a pretty average looking guy, which is really what I wanted....

Am rendering the chest now. I do see that I have a "flat spot" to the insides of the breast area, so that's something I'll need to work on.

Okay, here it's clear there's a bit more work to get this to be perfect. The upper part of the breast area is still a wee bit too rounded. And in the arms raised render, you can see that the mesh doesn't like the larger collar and shoulders. I'm really not sure how to fix that.

Believable3D: Those head shots look fantastic. One little thing I've noticed though is that in the side view the angle of the forehead is too steep for a male. It should angle backwards towards the top of the head. Another thing that seems a little odd, although not particularly gender-specific, is the almost straight line from the lower lip to the chin. I think there should be at least a little bit of an indentation there.

Well, the shoulder bends need some serious work, anyway. If you let me have the morphs, I'll try to accommodate Antonio's shape when I fix them.

I think the chest looks much better now, even with the roundedness. I'd also reduce the size of the areolae and maybe move the nipples a tiny bit more inward.

Oh, and the arms up pose doesn't look so bad. I think the main problem here is that the collar bones stay fixed. Is that my arms up pose? If so, I did a bad job on it.

Believable3D ( ) posted Sat, 15 August 2009 at 11:57 PM

Thanks for the comments, odf. The straightness below the mouth is a bit exaggerated with the slight angle of the render; on a strict side view, there's a little bit of curvature. But not much. I may have overdone it a bit when I was getting rid of Antonia's protruding lips.

I'll try to look at some reference photos. I've never noticed that women's foreheads are different from men's, although there are certainly a variety of slopes overall. Not being sufficiently observant, maybe.

Good idea with the areolae. We'll see if my skils are up to that. :-p

I think the nipples look wrong because there's still a bit of an outward angle there. My own nipples are further outward than Antonio's, but I think they're pointing more directly forward, though not by a lot. I've still got too much roundness on the side of his breast area; it should come forward and turn a bit more sharply.
