Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
Just examined my pz3 in a texure editor - you will never believe this!
":Kimberly:Runtime:Textures:outoftouch:kimberley_hr:06KimbCap.jpg"
I have no directory called kimberly
the runtime is in a folder called Poser_Hair_Kimberly
poser 8 has made up a folder name!

PS I deleted the hair and put it on again and resaved but same path

but chanign that witha text editor didn't help.
I tried changing Textures to textures as this was how it was really but that didn't help either.
I don't know but the paths sure are funny. I would have thought deep search would find it all anyway. Poser 7 opens it fine even with funny path.

I am having this problem too and as you say it makes Poser 8 unusable. Sometimes it finds textures but more often than not it doesn't.
I have deep search set and have checked the .cr2/pz2 files and all of the paths are relative. Not sure if it has anything to do with it but I am on Vista 64-bit with UAC turned off.
One thing you can do, once you have located all of the textures that Poser 8 can't find, is use the python script 'collectSceneInventory' (Scripts > Utility) to save the scene and all of the textures that it uses in a folder. Next time you can open the scene from there without 'can't find texture' errors. Too much work for me though.
I have now given up with Poser 8 and am sticking with Poser Pro where textures from the same external runtimes load fine. I hope this isn't going to be an issue in Poser Pro 2010?
Hi there,
well I really liked the new lighting and the speediness of my python scripts in poser 8 however I too will have to revert back to poserpro as your fix is too much work for the things I am trying to do.
I am on mac by the way so it is not quite related to the computer I don't think.
Everything worked fine when I first started using poser 8 though but not now.

Well this is really annoying!
I thought I had better do the right thing and raise an incident at SM about this so I opened up Poser 8 to get the correct error message and what do you know - every texture loaded fine - no errors at all!
It is only temporary though, I know from past experience that it works sometimes and then breaks again. It is just playing with me!
I'd rather it didn't work at all than work when it feels like it. At least that would make tracking down the cause easier.
Maybe it will keep working properly for you now?
Good luck

I have this problem too and I think you will find others are also. I'm sure Smith Micro are aware of the problem and will release a patch.
To cut this problem down to a minimum, I used CR Pro. and changed all my paths from relative to full. I now only occasionally get an error message, but the 'Mat' or materials load fine in spite of it.
Most of my content are in external Runtimes in a separate Partition on my Hard Drive.

P7 sometimes has a problem with underscores in file names. Looks like it was carried over
to the new version.

I have underscores in my folders that I keep my external runtimes in.

I've had this problem too -- it decides that texture files in an external runtime are actually in the main Poser 8 runtime. (Note: I used the install option which uses the traditional location for the runtime.)
I keep having crashes after it doesn't find textures in scenes which open fine in Poser 7.

Oddly enough, it actually ends up listing two copies of the texture -- one from the correct place, one from the incorrect.

I'm on a Mac and this is happening to me as well. Two copies of all the textures!

even when I restart. this didn't happen when I first started doing things in poser 8, but now it's all the time making it impossible to use.
Is there any solution/
