Subject: OT: DAz Studio 3(free) takes loads when loading Non DAZ figures, any way?

josterD ( ) posted Mon, 24 August 2009 at 12:16 PM · edited Wed, 19 February 2025 at 1:55 AM

Hi all

DAZ Studio seems nice. I started using it but it takes loads of time loading MIKI for example.
And it gives a bunch of errors, actually she doesn't even load.

Am i doing something wrong,or is this the way it is since DAZ wants us to use DAZ figures

Wrong forum maybe? This should be posted (and most likely answered better) in the Daz Studio forum.

it's not actually free.  one may soon find that one must buy various items to get it to the point that poser is at.

I tried Miki2 in Daz 3 and it crashes badly. It appears to be something in the texture files that Daz faults at.

DS3 basic is actually/Literally free
as in, there are people who have Downloaded it and rendered Decent stills and animations with it for ZERO dollars spent.
therefore it meets the Literal Definition of a
FREE software package.

The features of poser by comparison does not change this fact.

We cannot claim blender is really "not" free
because I "have" to buy a seat of PMG Messiah to get the same Auto character rigging ability.
as PMG messiah.

As to the relevant OP's question at hand
I just loaded Miki2 in about 6 seconds in DS 2.3. on OSX.

try decompressing her CRZ to a Cr2 and her OBZ geometry file to a standard OBZ and let DS do a complete Content search
before trying to load the figure again

But This may be A DS3 compatibility  Issue That im not having here in DS2.3x

Umm, OK since Poser wasn't even mentioned. Can you see Russia from your house too?

Yeah, she works in 2.x. josterD/markschum, I'd file a bug report with Daz.

Try http://www.daz3d.com/i/support/downloads?product=studio&_m=d  there is a beta .137 release which MAY fix the tdlmake errors that some people are having.  (Me for one)

I havent loaded it myself cause its 50 meg and I on dialup.

lowpoly ( ) posted Mon, 24 August 2009 at 7:39 PM

Miki 2.0 works in DS 3
DS is very particular about where the PMD files are for morphs, so those may be error you are seeing if you have changed name of folder or moved the cr2/crz somewhere

markschum ( ) posted Mon, 24 August 2009 at 8:13 PM

Theres apparently an issue with some code and AMD processors. I have an amd system and the crash is in tdlmake, no external morph files .   Theres a short list of bugfixes for this beta release.

just keeping it real, boy.  this is the poser forum, hence I added something about poser. no need for your snide or stupid comments.
what you missed was that OP had to delete poser 8 from his HD in order to get a refund from SM, only to find that D|S is crashing.  but ya get what ya pay for.

To be Fair The OP's post  is OT here and is better suited for  the  DS forum.
but personally I see no reason to make the False, Orwellian Doublespeak, admonishment that Daz studio is "not" a free program.

And from the description D/S is Failing to LOAD one Content paradise figure that Does not List   DAZ studio Compatibility on its product page.
I recommend turning off PMD morphs(if they are still active) and Saving out a PZ3 with with the Miki2 figure and trying to import that scene.

K, we get it....D|S is free. This doesn't belong in the Poser forum but rather the D|S forum.

I'll be back and so will the thread....in the D|S forum....lol.

snide?  stupid?  "ya get what ya pay for"?

I paid for Poser 7 and Poser Pro ... and I got buggy programs with crap content and the slowest render engine on the planet.  Poor lights.  Models with no morphs.  I mean, honestly, does anyone use G2 models without RDNA morphs?  On second thought, does anyone use G2 models?  Apparently not when looking at the galleries and marketplace products.

I've got Poser Pro, and I like it very much, especially its ease at Ambient Occlusion.  However, my figures of choice are the ones that came originally with Poser 4, which I have since remapped so as to work with the more modern Unimesh textures.  I have no use for any other figures than these.

Glad to see I don't have a monopoly on giving offense Ms. N. Sorry I didn't divine from some other post that he had deinstalled Poser. Which would still leave your comment about DS not being free odd enough merit comment IMVHO. Obviously you're not an SNL fan.

Well guys i figured it out!!!

IN Poser 6( what i have)I had to resave my characters with the Use External binary... option in the Preferences set to OFF.

Now everything loads really fast in DS studio.

For me, DAZ Studio is superbly better thatn Poser 8 , especially since i can move superbly fast using  opengl in my Machine.

With Poser 8 there was no way. everything was sluggish and it does'nt have options to make OpenGL faster. DS Has options to make it super smooth on my machine.

So now, i've switched to DAZ Studio. I'll do some thing with Poser 6 though if i need to.
