Subject: Free Stuff ...its now a clickfest

Not everyone visits freestuff.  I know that, unless I'm prodded in that direction, I rarely visit it except to upload a freebie.  But, that's just me.  To some people, that's the center of the universe they revolve around.  Not saying it's good or bad, it is what it is.

I used to visit often.  I have dozens of CD-ROMs with stuff I've purchased AND lots and lots of freestuff.  I think I'm kind over the 3D hobby.  Some of the changes have pushed me away and Renderosity has become more of a comercial interests than a place to learn about the software and share ideas.  I guess it's really just me.  Notthing wrong with the site and the members here have been very generous and kind to me.

I'm happy with Poser 6 and the goodies I have I guess, and just as pleased to turn the computer off and go for a walk along the lake ...

'beyotch' was funny though.  Well worth following the e-bot for!

Best Wishes,
Rªnce

Flaunting my ignorance, how does one add one of these sig things? I have some political, religious and other groups I want to tell off big time - oh, and also recruit followers for the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Top of the forum under the link for "my forum options". Click that and you'll go directly to the sig thing.

And the Flying Spaghetti Monster is well worth the effort, being the only truly worship-worthy deity ever invented in 10,000 years of human history.  ;-)

I put these entertaining threads into my 'Speak Aloud' program so that I can actually get work done on my project while I listen. One of the drawbacks was that certain posters' "signatures" included War and Peace length rants that I'd hear every time they posted a line. I'm glad that the complaints of others allowed me to learn that I could turn off the signatures.

*At this time, they felt that, with the feedback we've been getting for YEARS, it's best to continue with the upload being required at this time. *

We'll just have to take their word for that, although it could have been 2 e-mails for all we know. Any problem with dead links could have been fixed with a 'report dead link' button, which was never tried despite all of the 'feedback.'

It's kinda silly to turn off the signatures as a whole, because most of them aren't that bad or trying to be offensive.
Doing so is like that whole ostrich-head-in-the-sand thing; out of sight, out of mind and all that, but it's still there nevertheless.

Of course, the real cure for such things is to disallow them, but as long as you have influential mods helping the PTB to understand - I mean believe -  it's not a contradiction of the TOS, it will never happen. ;-)

Within the past several hours I've learned that it's OK to insult and flame entire groups, and is only deemed TOS-worthy if people complain, while I still can't single out any one individual as a beeyotch.

In other words, I can say something like "Everybody named Jen is a beyotch", and that would be OK, but I can't say anything that would target one particular Jen.

Y'know, it doesn't make sense, but that doesn't really surprise me, because it would be far easier to justify it than it would be to bring it into compliance with the overall TOS.  ;-)

i need to invent some really controversial, rude, and overtly controversial signature.
Or, how about this one ?

Didn't say that.  At all.

What I said is that you can express your opinion.  Saying "I think the Republicans/Christian Right are wrong" is different than "I think all Republicans/Christians should go f*ck themselves".  The first is not an attack, it's an opinion.  The second is an attack.  No part of Geoegress' sigline is an attack on either Republicans or Christians.  Those who go out of their way to take offense to his opinion have a right to feel however they want to feel.  It doesn't make his sigline an attack.

Why do I feel like trying to explain this concept is like trying to explain how I find the "Drive-By Disagreement" scene from "There's Something about Paulie" (Family Guy) is hillarious?

yeah but when did I use the word "attack"? I didn't, at least not in the reply you quoted. I used the words "insult and flame"

To say Republicans are bad in government as a whole isn't either an insult or a flame?

I'm just arguing semantics here with you now though, and it's really pretty pointless to me now.
I do get what you're saying, and I did when I wrote that reply above.
So why did I type it? I dunno, just felt like arguing, I guess. Was having a really boring day. ;-)

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 05 September 2009 at 2:52 PM

By the way, that's not to say I think you're right. I still say it's a contradiction to allow political-based signature lines at a site that prohibits political discussions.

But all that will come of continuing this is we'll go back and forth til someone gets bored and gives up. It's just my opinion, and I don't think there really can be a right or wrong answer.

But to go back on topic, how's the clickfest going?
Are the Poserites happier yet?

Actually, some people are really liking this new-fangled Free Stuff.  And Bobby and Brynna are working just as hard as before the change in approving free-stuff.

I like it.  Before, you never knew what hoops you had to jump through to download a free item, or whether it was still available. I don't mind looking at a few ads, as long as finding the download is easy.

I have only one free item listed on renderosity atm, but now I may post more. I used to worry about keeping the links current, but now I won't have to worry.

LaurieA ( ) posted Sat, 05 September 2009 at 6:41 PM

Well, I have some of my freebies here and all my freebies at my website. I figure if I upload them here, if something catastrophic happens, I can retrieve them if I need to ;o). I'm not always as careful about backing things up as I should be .

There are lots of good conspiracy sites out there.  I frequent many of them under several names.  None of them have got anything better than this thread.  JFK assassination....nope.  Faked moon landing...........nope.  911 was an inside job............nope.  Oil companies control the world.......nope.

Right here I am in conspiracy heaven.
