Two words: Trans-mapped brows.
They use the eyebrow material zone on V4(which is normally unused), most sets don't seem to come with them but some do. They usually mention that as an option. Check out this promo for "Little Miss Lotta" by SaintFox to see what they look like.

Edited to add:
You could also use the head texture in the eyebrow zone and probably create displacement that way. I'm pretty sure it has the exact same mapping as the head. Just make sure to make the zone visible(you need to select eyebrow from the body part menu and go to parameters and check visible). It's off by default, it's not really needed with painted on brows - but some merchants use this even with painted brows as a way to give you a wide range of options for the eyebrows.

Oh, bingo!
Thanks!

You're welcome.
I haven't tried it that way with VSS but, by default VSS does some weird things with trans-mapped eyebrows(it could just be the eyebrow zone, I only tried it once and haven't gotten back to it yet or I could have messed up someplace but I don't think so.) . Just something to keep an eye on anyways. Best of luck to you.

There are a couple of tutorials about making an eyebrow mask that may help you. They were originally made to change the colour of V4's eyebrows but they also work to mask the displacement of the brows. The process is also fairly easy and only takes a few minutes. I believe that one of the tutorials is on the Daz3d site in the tutorials section. It is called easy colour changeable eyebrows. Here is a link:

edit: The link doesn't work perfectly. At the top of the page change the view to textures and maps.

Thanks, nabob, I'll take a look. I think part of my present problems aren't simply workflow, but software issues.

All, I'm trying to displace V4's eyebrows, but no matter how high I go with the displacement settings, they just don't seem to want to displace. I'm just using the head map for the brows. Am I missing something with the mapping? I was going to try to compare it to how others have done it, but I'm not seeing any maps specifically for the eyebrows in other sets.
Any secrets?
