Subject: Gradients In PhotoShop - creating?

Hi,

Is it possible to create a gradient in PhotoShop, or do you just have to use the presets that come with it?
(I have CS4)

Is it possible to use an image as a gradient?

Cos I have an image with darkness in 2 corners so vignetting won't work,
...and I hoped that darkening the image and then copying that as a layer and then fading it out in a gradient... well I hoped this might help even out the dark and light parts of the image...

Is this possible?

by the shade it casts.

The link to your image does not seem to be working.

You can certainly create your own gradients. Select the gradient tool, then in the toolbar instead of clicking the little down arrow to get the list of presets, click the actual gradient. The gradient edtor appears and you can edit existing presets or create new ones.

Unfortunately I don't think you can make one from an image. Wouldn't a radial gradient with appropriate layer blending do what you want (hard to say without seeing the image)?

i've use a gradient MASK over an image to exposed the underlying layer  (it was one of those "passed away" friend looking down from above kind of image...)  so you can use the gradient tool in some creative ways to come up with most effects you're looking for.

Have you tried using the clone stamp or patch tools to fix the darkened corners?  You also might try the Lens Correction Filter (under Distort)  there is a Vignette slider and you can make it brighter by using a positive (+)  setting.

You could also try adding a layer mask to the image you want to fade and then add a white to black gradiend to the layer mask. This will fade the visibility of your image from 100% visible to invisible.
