Subject: Help-Why do we use the Compose Utility?

I've been hearing a lot about the Compose Utility. What is it used for? And are there any tutorial for it? Thanks

Compose is handy for all sorts of things, and I probably don't use all its facilities. I don't know of any tutorial for it, as far as I know you just have to figure it out. Basically it can import .obj, .cob (Truespace), and various Poser files (.pp2, .cr2, .hr2 and .pz3) and export .obj and .cob as well as a vertex map. Once in there, you can split up the groups and save them separately, rescale them, and lots of other things I haven't got into yet. I use it for extracting geometries before I generate morphs using Anim8or, which can't handle multi-group objects. The real answer to your question: if you need it, you'll know...

THe only actual tutorial I've ever seen using Compose was made by Traveler, and dealt with making Poser .obj exports usable in Amorphium for making morph targets. Aside from that, I have no earthly idea what Compose was actually designed for.

I suspect John Wind uses Truespace, and Compose was originally designed to allow body parts to be transferred easily between TS and Poser. I don't know enough about Truespace to say how many of Compose's features are due to the way TS works, and how many are handy things that just got added on. The link for Compose goes straight to the zip file: John's home page doesn't even mention it, as far as I can see! If you're reading this, John... The link I've attached is a tutorial for using Compose on the Mac, but because it's Java based it applies equally well to Windows. Just ignore the Mac specific bits.

There is a tutorial for using Compose with morphs.

CR2Edit5 will mirror morphs, in either the OBJ or the CR2, and to the best of my knowlege, will do anything Compose will do except make COB files. About 75 tools in one app. The disadvantage, of course, is that it is not free. Hi, How do I get the Compose utility? I did a search for it, but only got these Froum hits, no link to the util itself. TIA! Kris Krieger http://www.pterochromics.com

Kris, I am quite certain that Compose is available in the free stuff at the PFO, and perhaps the 3dCommune. HTH, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/cr2edit.html Sorry Win only for software http://www.zenwareonline.com for ZenPaint, ZenTile, ZenGrid and VueMaster
