Subject: Loading content into Poser

Pandorian ( ) posted Sat, 03 October 2009 at 2:22 PM · edited Wed, 06 March 2024 at 11:34 AM

Okay, I've created and marketed a figure here on Rosity which is currently in the Marketplace and is compatible with Poser 5, 6 and 7.  I've just installed Poser 8 on my computer and loaded this figure into Poser 8.  Now, I've skimmed through the Poser 8 path in my computer (Program files/Smith Micro/Poser 8/Runtime/ etc....) and I see the folders for my product, however, when I open up Poser 8 and attempt to load that figure in, I cannot find it anywhere.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Mmmm did you not have to make the ZIP for your product Poser ready  ..
And now its in the store .. so how did you do that if you cant find your OWN product ?

You are not making sence....
And did you set the p8 reading of runtimes the right way in P8 or the new way .?

Chris

The default Poser 8 installation will place library content in a shared directory named "Poser 8 Content". You'll see this listed in the Poser library along with another section named "Downloads"

If you have installed your zip to the root Poser 8 folder you will need to add that as a new library using the "Add Library" icon.

Excuse me if I "lost" you Chris.  But this product has been and still is in the marketplace for a few years.  Since it's creation, it's been made compatible with Poser 5 and 6 and then later when Poser 7 came out, it was tested to be compatible with Poser 7.  I have just now today, received and installed Poser 8 on my computer and wanted to see if that same creation is compatible with Poser 8.  I loaded it into the Poser 8 Runtime (as I've done many times before on Poser 5,6 and 7).  This is where the problem begins, I navigated through path destination on my computer (Program Files/Smith Micro/Poser 8/Runtime/ etc.... and I can visually see the folders I created for my product there, however, when I open the Poser 8 program and try to load the figure I just installed into Poser 8, I don't see any of the folders for it anywhere.

What exactly do you mean by setting the reading of Runtimes in P8 the right way or new way?

Depending on what options you choose when installing Poser 8 the Program Files/Smith Micro/Poser 8/Runtime may not have been included in the default library. You'll need to add it manually by clicking on the add library icon.

Once added you'll be able to see your content.

This cannot be figured out if you never say what the path is. You keep saying Poser 8/Runtime/ ... and never finish.

There have been bugs regarding paths. Perhaps you found one. But if you don't tell us any details, we cannot guess. Most have been fixed in SR1.

Also, you did not which version of Poser 8 you have - there are 3.

PHILC: Thank you for explaining that to me.  I did as you suggested and everything appeared as it should.  Now is this a one-time creation or do I have to do this whenever I install content to Poser 8, (if I install it the same I did to Poser 6 and 7 via their Poser root folder)?

Also, for the sake of Poser version uniformity for the marketplace when creating content, would it be prudent to keep the ROOT POSER FOLDER as the final destination when creating new content for the Marketplace?

Thanks

-J

Unless you opt to remove them, the Poser 8 library panel will continue to show all your loaded runtime libraries.

I suggest creating zips just as before but include a note in the readme explaining that the default Poser 8 library may be in a remote folder not in the local runtime. The user may install to either, just be sure that all required libraries have been added to the library panel.

buidl 10157?!? The first one?

There was an immediate (day of release) hot fix that had to be run. 10157 is not going to work.

Since then there is SR1. Get that. Then we debug. Not before.

Bagginsbill,  no need to debug as PhilC immediately identified and helped resolve the problem.

Thanks however for taking the time to state the obvious.

It's a daft idea to alienate yourself by snapping at people who are trying to help.

No matter if your immediate problem was solved, you should - in fact I URGE you to - install both the hotfix and SR1. Without those two, Poser 8 will not be a fun experience. And how can you create new Poser content in a version that doesn't really work?

It's up to you of course.. but then don't come whining whenever something ELSE won't work for you.

First off TrekkieGrrrl, I wasn't snapping at anyone.  IMO the response was laced with a bit of sarcasm and I responded accordingly.  Whether or not it was only he truly knows, if I misinterpreted his response, then he has my sincerest apologies.  My intention IS and ALWAYS was to install the SR1 and hotfix, PhilC just happened to address my issue before I got around to it.

As for your provocative and unnecessarily inane "whining" comment, it's not even worth the effort of a response.  Regardless, you have yourself a nice day.
