Subject: Blender Issues with Windows 7

SEspider ( ) posted Fri, 18 September 2009 at 4:17 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 11:34 AM

Click Download to see the animation.

Anywho, since I installed Windows 7, I now get the error message "Video Card does not support 3D" when I know it does. The Card didn't change, just the operating system.

Unfortunately, Blender is now doing the above when it starts. Clicking a menu is not a problem, for it works fine, but clicking off of it, and the menu does the same thing. Oh and the actual animation should be twice as slow. :(

Also Blender refuses to see the installed Python as before.

PS: the image is a screenshot from Blender and the animation you see a re-creation I did in Photoshop.

Thanks but I can't seem to be able to find the settings to change it in 2.49

SEspider ( ) posted Fri, 09 October 2009 at 5:25 PM

So I'm assuming no one can tell me how to change the settings in 2.49a or 2.49b so this stops happening?

There's a Brand spanking new computer running thats maxed out. Only program installed is Blender 2.49b (not even an anti-firus is installed yet) but this still happens!
And it has a new HIS Radeon 4670 HD card in it! Blender should not be doing this.

I would use the 2.50 beta but the scrollwheel does not work in that program and I need to be able to move my views.

Someone PLEASE Help!

I just read a blog about Windows 7. Someone reported the same problem when they ran the compatibility test. The advice was to check for the latest drivers, and if the drivers are current, then it's still possible that the manufacturer has a driver for Windows 7, but hasn't released it officially.

I had that on Vista when it first came out.  All of the menus did that too.  The solution was to get a new video card that actually had Vista drivers, but if it's a brand new computer then the manufacturer probably has them or will release them.

How exactly would I go about finding the needed Drivers?
I've installed all of the available drivers on the updated (basically brand new) computer.

Wish there was a place to go and find ALL the needed drivers. :(
I can't buy a new video Card.

If you have an nVidea card, just search on nVidea drivers. The site shows all the official drivers and the betas. I'm assuming that other video card manufacturers have something of the same set-up.

The old computer has a standard generic card. Fully Updated drivers

The upgraded computer has a Radeon 4870 HD card. Also upgraded fully.

Still no luck. :(

Assuming that your copy of Windows 7 is a 64-bit version, why not try this link over at ATI.com? Otherwise, you could check for the 32-bit version.

Also, what you described is not necessarily that you lack a 3D accelerator to properly run Blender, it's that you actually lack the OpenGL driver that Blender is heavily dependent on to run, hence the message. This usually happens if you've recently installed Windows (generally any copy from 98 to recent does this) and it installs a baseline driver that works on your video card, but does not provide any additional functions. The only thing you can currently do, especially if the problem keeps happening, is try to use a driver cleaner to remove any and all drivers for your video card, then reinstall the drivers from either the cards manufacture or ATI's website.

Hope this helps some.
