Subject: JUST UPLOADED MY LATCHWORM (Not meant as a dirty joke!)

Ok - a while back (back in the early days of POSER 5), I came up with the idea for a very versatile creature figure combining elements of several prehistoric cetaceans (hope I spelled that at last "ok") and arthropods, such as the trilobite, sea scorpion, and giant flat land crawlers of the carboniferous era - with several contemporary creatures such as the laosian trilobite worm, and the giant rodent eating centipedes of South America (that have also been known to eat small tarsiers and other tree lemurs as well).

This figure would be versatile and flexible enough to use in images in the genres of Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy, or any measure of gray cross over areas in betwixt them (YES - "betwixt is a real word, let's hope for a revival of it's use - YA HA!). The figure could be made to be the size of the massive sand worms of the "DUNE" trilogies, or as small as one of those canned, formula alien parasites that either burrow into the back of your neck - or crawl into your brain through your ear canal to thusly control you like a mindless zombie. It could also be used as a magical little buddy or riding animal for the charming winged fairy folk (BLLLEEEECCCCHHHH - YUCKO - GAG - PTEWHIE!).

Ideally - it would be a man sized predator that used its massive mandibles to latch onto your belly just bellow the rib cage - whereby inserting its fangs into the upper intestines, and filling it's victim with a digestive enzyme (much like a spider), and thus begin "drinking" it's victims insides until nothing were left but an empty dry husk (i.e. the "LATCH" worm term). YES - in my younger days I was a tad bit warped, now I'm just decrepid - lmao .

Ok - so - to continue (grab some coffee for this one). Back then I knew about as much about 3D modeling as I knew about brain surgery, BUT - I had good ideas, and following the old addage from Prof. Einstein that "imagination was more important than knowledge", I proceeded to solicite assistance from a skilled modeller in bringing this nightmare to life - enter Brycetech.

After submitting drawings of several concept creatures on a forum posting, Brycetech and I agreed through some deliberation that the Latchworm was the best, and most interesting of the lot to devise (actually - it most interesting to him - and far be it from me to look a gift horse in the mouth), and so - he agreed to model it based upon my sketches.

Mr Ajax took notice of this rather unique freebie Poser Character (I assume while surfing the freebies selection), and thought that it would make an ideal supplimentary test bed for the latest incarnation of his brand new "Easy Pose" technology. Hence was born both the easy pose version of the Latchworm, and the P5 shaders that my albino, templateless figure lacked to give it at least a marginally passable texture set.

It languished in the freebie section - eventually finding it's way into the private libraries of a few interested users - and finding it's way into one or two images as well -before finally fading ever pitifully into obscurity. UNTIL NOW - BWA HA HA HAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGHA!

I am re - releasing this fiendish thing - along with it's accessory easy pose files - once again into the wild - to see what use a new generation of Poser Users will put it to, and what interesting new incarnations it might take!

And they lived happily ever after Virginia...

 Thank you!

Not sure what I'll use it for, though… :tongue2:

Ok, so it's "Not meant as a dirty joke!" Why on earth would it have no link?

Rendo hasn't approved it yet, lol. When they do - it'll be up.
Rendo is hosting the file also - no external page link needed.

Can it be used in Commercial renders?  I've been looking for a creepy crawly to be an alien symbiote.

Have a creative day!

YES CLEASTERWOOD!  As soon as RENDO get's it up on the freebies section (it's taking forever and a a day), you will most definitely be able to use it for commercial renders. You can also make texture and morph packs and accessories for it to and distribute those as you see fit. Wjatever images you make with it are completely yours!

You just CANNOT SELL THE FIGURE, OR THE EASY POSE PACK AND DEFAULT P5 SHADERS THEMSELVES. You can distribute the original packages in this download on sites with free downloads, but you can't distribute them through a FEE TO REGISTER website, or a website that requires a fee to access downloads.

The original figure itself is a "community" figure, it cannot be sold - not even by me, and I'm one of the creators.

Jebus Mugsey...what's yer hurry...some of us do have other lives or sleep. I have approved the first one you uploaded, but what's with the second upload? Is that an update or just you thinking it didn't upload?

Hey bobby!
The second upload has a read me in it that I forgot to stick in the first one that gives my new email addy, and some additional canned ipso factos, lol. By the By - I celebrated Halloween by watch a pre-recorded live GHOST ADVENTURERS ditty with my sisters and nephews, and chewed on left over teeth dissolvers (candy).

Tonight I'm playing catch up and watching the live GHOST HUNTERS thing that they did last night on the SCYFY channel (hey - I have no life - so sue me, lol).

No sweat Bobby - it's all cool bro. On the GHOSTADVENTURERS thing I watched last night, they did a live ghost hunt in an abandoned insane asylum, and it was pretty sweet. A lotta hooky stuff happened and they even caught the sound of a lady ghost screaming in there (was probably staged - but hey - it sent goosebumps down my spine anyway).
It was a rightious time waster.

Last time I posted it (2005), I only saw it in two renders that I could find, but back then the Poser crowd was more into elves and dragons, lol.

I just wanted to make sure Commercial renders were Ok.  Some people are picky about their stuff being used in commercial renders.   I wouldn't distribute it anyway as I wouldn't want anyone doing that to my stuff.  :)

Ok Cleasterwood. In the future anytime I post a freebee, it will definitely be open for commercial and non commercial both - heck why give stuff away if you don't want somebody using them?
Seems kinda silly if you ask me, but that's just my opinion.

bobbystahr ( ) posted Sun, 01 November 2009 at 12:28 PM · edited Sun, 01 November 2009 at 1:02 PM

I agree as well but some folk use giving away free models as a "loss leader" to get you interested in buying their 'commercial offerings', and some even pull the free item after a period of freeness has either helped or hindered their potential market.. ...

Heya Mugsy, just a heads up that we'll have to remove that first one once the one in pending is approved so there aren't duplicates. 😉

Thanks!

That's ok Jumpstartme2, actually I'de rather you did because the new one has a read me with my updated contact info so that if anyone has questions, and also some term clarifications.
I just wish that I had updated contact info for Brycetech and Ajax, but I wrote it down that they could be reached through Rendo anyway. As of writing this the file already has 242 DLs, not bad! Just be cautious because I THINK the new one has an identicle file name. Still - if you want to and replacing is a sticky prop, just leave the one that's already there - your call.
