THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: .ter terrain files?

Can someone advise how I can load Terragen terrain files into Bryce 6? I simply want to do a comparison between the two progs to determine which gives best results - and a standard file seems to be the best way.

as long as you are using the old terragen, 0.9 x, there is an exporter either on the save dialogue or available where all the plugins are found, and it exports .lwo and .raw.... I've tried the .lwo and it worked fine in Imagine3D and what works in Imagine often works in Bryce
Sorry if this is a bit sketchy but I don't have any terragens on this box any more..devoted to the net... ...

There is also somewhere online, an app called Terrify that will convert a .ter file into a .bmp which can be used in Bryce's terrain editor.. ...

I've converted Terragen terrains to Bryce (probably Terragen .84 and Bryce 5.0), but the scale was way off (Bryce used to bring everything in at one Bryce unit; hence, mountain ranges in a box...;)

If you do get terrify and bring the bmp as a grayscale pic, you should be able to use that as a template to make Bryce terrains. But then Bryce does the same thing all on it's own; perhaps you're going for something specific?

Well basically it was an idea to render .ter file in Bryce so that I could add finer detail, such as trees, rocks etc. I know you can't directly import terragen files, but if I could import a terragen render as a billboard backdrop, that would be one way? Dunno?

I realise this is bordering on heresy but why not dl the Terragen2Free version and do it in terragen itself? It comes with trees and a grass patch object as well as imports .obj quite well.. ...

bobbystahr..you shall get hanged for this.. ;-p ;-p
I thought bryce could do what terragen could anyway.. in a slight mixed about way.. yes..the ease of terragen creating landscapes is mindblowing..
btw.. the free version can'tt let you render in large sizes..

Indeed Rosie...that's the one fly in the ointment and it is a bit more pricey than Bryce but still less so than Vue. For my money in a lot of ways it is the superior renderer but it is most definatelty not a modeler, so Bryce wins there.. ...
