Subject: What to do with older versions??

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 04 November 2009 at 3:17 AM · edited Sun, 08 December 2024 at 7:15 AM

What do you guys do with your old versions?.
Once I've installed Vue 8 Inf on my rig, I'll have Vue 6, 7.4 and 7.5 still on as well. Now a lot of the content in each is the same because the extra's CD has never been changed in all that time.
Now I don't need all thos versions of Vue on my rig so what do you guys do?
Do you uninstall all the previous ones or keep one in case you need it, just interested in what everyone does with the older versions really!
TIA!

Injustice will be avenged.

Its a bit different for me, I had Vue 6 Infinite, then made the mistake of going to 7 Complete. So I keep 6 Infinite to run Python scripts or baking etc

If however I did have the older versions I would probably keep them on my system so in case I needed to re-render something, as version changes can in a lot of cases change what the rendered image looks like

I don't have that long history so I only have 7.4, 7.5 and 8 all installed

They all share the same content directory though. Don't know if it'll be a problem later on.

I keep everything on the hard drive. These days they are big enough to just let it stay up there. If i buy a new computer in a few years from now, i only will install the latest version obviously :-)

Yep, I do pretty much the same. :-)

I ditched Vue5 when I changed computer a while ago. I keep 7 and 7.5 because as a content provider, I need to make my content available for users that are still a generation behind (for pruducts that past versions can load, of course) So I just deleted Vue6 for this reason.

I do clean uninstalls of previous versions before installing the latest bought copy.  I have a CD in case it asks for validating an old version first.  Previous versions of Vue and other programs are stored forever in a box and never looked at again.

Except of Hexagon 1.21.

If you are a content creator, it's a good idea to keep them for testing compatability and whatnot.

My license with e-on does not allow me to keep previous versions installed.

Hi Shawn - did you mean that message that pops up once you install a new version?  I always took that to mean I can't sell or upgrade again the older version, since it was used to upgrade to the new version.
