THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OT - All men believe they can do Kung Fu

electroglyph ( ) posted Thu, 05 November 2009 at 12:14 AM · edited Tue, 01 October 2024 at 4:53 PM

So my work is on this kick. You get a physical and get this health guide on the web, things to do things to eat. If you do it they knock $30 a month off your insurance premium. Turns out my blood pressure and triglycerides are high and I have a spare tire to lose. The program suggests two servings of fish per week, three fruits, five vegetables, and 30 minutes of exercise vigorous enough to cause heavy breathing.

Twenty years ago I was running 10-15 miles every day and climbing the stairs in 23 story buildings(plural). I’m still in great shape, right? I walk at least half a mile every day between buildings and the parking lot. I climb a single flight of stairs half a dozen times. How bad can I be? It’s hard for the nurse to find a good vein to draw blood. I’ll just start running again, build up my cardio, loose the weight.

A mile to start should be easy so I head down to the track and start on my first lap at a loping 12 minute mile pace. Three,,,quarters…..of………..the………..way………..a…round…………and………………..I……………..can’…t………………………….b…r….e……a……t…….h………e  Not a heart attack, I just can’t get enough air in fast enough after  a 300 yard jog. I slow down to a walk. After I can gasp again I start thinking, “This is crap. I have to be better than this!” I start doing wind splints, running 220 then walking 220, pushing a little faster each time.  I manage to get about six more in before my liver and the left arm where the lymph duct empties start to ache too much and I quit. It’s just a hundred yards short of a mile.

That night I got up and realized I’d bused the bottoms of my feet. That went away by the next day, and then the calves started burning. Two days later and I’m through the Frankenstein staggers. I almost walk like a human. Just in time to go to the track again! I know my veins are still too tiny to carry enough blood. I only hacked up about a tenth of what has taken up permanent residence in my lungs.

How did I get in this shape? By fooling myself and ignoring the signs. By never getting feedback when it mattered. Friends never tell you, “You need a bath!” they just stop hanging around and being friends after a while. Only family will tell you, “You stink!”

One of the reasons I like these forums is you don’t get ripped apart like some others. On the other hand, I have not been interested in Brycing for a while. I never got more than a few votes. None of my work ever seems good enough to me. When I spend extra time it just gets more cluttered and I wind up with a dozen foci instead of one. I suspect I think I’m much better than anyone else does. So do I stink? And what type of soap should I use to get rid of it?

Wow, I hear your pain. I'm going thru agony trying to lose 30lbs. I started out right, lost over 20 at a healthy slow pace, but only to gain back 15 of it so far. I'm trying again to get back into the grove of turning away all those freebie junk foods that get left out in the office. It ain't easy. And if your not obese (I'm not) everyone looks at you like your nuts when you turn down food they offer. "You're not fat" they say. Well, just thought I'd chime in and let you know, you're not alone and you don't stink.

erosiaart ( ) posted Thu, 05 November 2009 at 6:58 AM

Electro. you do not stink..at least..i can't smell you from here..and i don't even think you do. As for your bryce work..it is excellent.. but have you noticed now..it's not us..the oldies..who are on here anymore..but the youngsters..and well.. their idea of good bryce is different from all of us? never mind the votes..i go thru the images..i never vote..(I plead guilty to that..)  doesn't mean your image is bad.. . never judge your work by the amt of votes you get.. not worth it...

just keep brycing.. don't leave it..like i did and now aching to get back to it.. you are good at what you do..

ang.. plz send me some of the lbs you trying to lose..my parents fed me butter in milk, friend bread in condenesed milk for bfast..and i'm still that skinny kiddo you see on fb. Ask thebryster.. if he could he'd have picked me up with one hand.

i get something of what you get..if i say no to anything..people think me on a diet.. i have to eat..just not to hear them say.."but you too thin to diet or excersice!" i'm no tdieting..i eat everything.. god..milk and butter, fried bread! ! jeez! wonder my cholesterol ain't high!  i can't seem to gain weight! And i excersice to keep fit!

Electro..we are all getting old.. no matter what you say.. though I'm way fit..according to my yoga teacher.. my back started to ache, my knees pain..and I just can't do one thing in yoga that i used to do a couple months ago. Not that i gave up exercising...walked for hours during my europe trip evryday..sometimes more than 6 hours a day.

keep doing your runs..don't push it.. 5 mins extra every day..and keep at it.. and if your body says stop..woah..stop..and let it get back its oomph.

btw..that 2 fish a week? make it 4...

Eatin fish is good! I used to eat fish 2-4 times a week when i worked next to my fav restaurant.. but now im in a small town in the middle of nowhere and gotta make do with microwave food from the supermarket.. ok so its cheaper and allowes me to pay for college ánd have a social life, but o sure do miss my swordfish steaks or salmon in dille sauce... sigh i guess ill try to fool myself again tonight into thinking the meal salad from the supermarket really is fresh and counts as an actual meal :-(

I used to be like you Rosie. So tiny and I could eat anything and everything I wanted. Sadly, something changed, I can no longer eat guilt free.
Electro, all I can say is never give up and do what you do for the enjoyment and to hell with what anyone else thinks. And don't worry about what you think they might think. They probably don't think anything, lol. People are so much more into themselves than others.
Ok back to me... j/k

rayraz..tune.. or sardines.. better than nothing..
ang.. get your thyroid checked.. they do that here all the time.. esp if you gain or lose weight all of a sudden for no apparent reason.. in fact..i had to get mines checked to see if anything was wrong..zilch..nada.. normal.
pakled.... ahem.. anyone says anything bad about me..i'll ask them to go to the putting (golf) range with me.. with a glass of wine as a bet...
and electro.. want to do this with me? in three days time.. let's do a mini render.. no joke here..a happy render.. colour, brilliance.. nothing to do with wars or space or anything.. just cheerful. import..not import.. doesn't matter.. nothing to do with judging ..advice welcome..but no good no bad, no don't like.. just a happy render.
I say three days coz it's the weekend..and i've realized renderosity goes on slow here.. many are with family..
anyone welcome to join.. just for the heck of it..and a happy mini render..
anyone up for it? will get me going again.. will get electro out of thinking way too much, and will get a lot of us out of the glum.,,
just a suggestion...

Sorry Rosie,
I live and work in Eureka. We're thinking too much all the time. Check out the last concert here http://www.pulcir.com/isotone/default.html

Rayraz I feel your pain. They closed Long John Silvers here and turned it into a Starbucks.

Like the Kung Fu title suggests people believe a lot of things and just accept them. It's all fantasy until it's tested and proven. I believed I'd be good in a fight. The reality is right now I couldn't even run away very well. I was told the world was round, I had to climb to the top of a mountain before I could actually see and believe it not just accept it. If you never get feedback things can get really bad and corrections can be painful.

If you want to do a happy render I'm not really into it right now, which is exactly why I should do it! The correction may be painful but most worthwile things are.

I'd like to go a step further. The first thing I thought of was lothloren, the second giant mushrooms. That's too much like drawing someone else's happiness, far off, over there. How about a real place ore event where you were/are/could be happy?

Rayraz ( ) posted Fri, 06 November 2009 at 11:09 AM

Quote - rayraz..tune.. or sardines.. better than nothing..

true true.. i buy some smoked salmon or some fish-based salads to put on bread or such sometimes for lunch so its not that bad, but its difficult to find microwave food with fish that actually tastes anything remotely close to freshly made fish meals lol.

I guess i just miss the whole thing u know? walkin round the corner, entering a familiar restaurant, seeing familiar faces, having a chat with whichever waitress works there at the time, the familiar taste of some of my favourite recepies. I'd even order particular recepies based on which cook was working on the day because i knew the particular specialties of each cook!
I could even ask for meals that were no longer on the menu, and the next day they'd put it as the "special of the day" just cuz i requested it the previous day!
Not to mention freshly cooked meals just taste so much better then microwave meals.. lol

lol.. fish.. maybe I'll get that made for lunch today. Rayraz..coming over? Pop in anytime.. You sound homesick...
Electro..ism't that this month's monthly challenge? Home is wehre your heart is..they say.. your heart is where happiness lies.
Lol..ok.. let's do this.. not even a long render..short one.. a place or event  where you were/are/will be  happy.. even if it's sitting underneath a gogantic mushroom.. mushroom..

Rayraz ( ) posted Sat, 07 November 2009 at 4:47 AM

haha nah im not homesick. im home right now as a matter of fact :) i just miss my old office! i used to have an office in a basement in one of the main shopping streets in amsterdam thats just overflowing with nice places to have good food.
But now my office is in a small town about a 30 minute busride in the other direction, and the only food there is a greek restaurant that's twice as expensive as it should be, a chinese restaurant of equally disappointing quality and 2 fast food places.
So i miss my old office street! i guess that makes me officestreetsick? lol

by the way, i'd pop over but i dont think we're anywhere near each other on the globe lol

Electro,
I'm a 3DC refugee so I was not familiar with your stuff. When I read your post I figured I should take a look and "Abram's Creek" was the first thing I saw.
I'm still kind of a newbie in 3D and I only hope I can make art like that some day.
But I can say that you really need to get in shape 8~)

I re-read my last post and thought,'That doesn't make much sense'
What I meant was, to have a eye that can see that kind of thing and catch it. Whether with a camera or Bryce, the seeing comes first.
I could always see art in my head, but no talent to be able to create it. That is until I found Bryce, which gave me the tools.

Rayraz ( ) posted Tue, 10 November 2009 at 8:09 AM

Ah that makes much more sense indeed Chumly! It is true.. its easier to imagine things then to make then.
I suppose thats one of the main reasons why there have been entire era's in art dedicated to the perfection of technical skill. Yet at the same time, similar motives have driven artists to do the exact opposit, such as andy warhol who wanted to bring art back to the masses instead of keeping it stuck with the uber-skilled (or uber-rich) elite.

I think us brycers are somewhere right in the middle. Our tool brings the ability to make art to the masses, but at the same time allows anyone from the doodling amature to the supertalented genius and anyone in between to turn their artistic visions into reality. No matter if we focus on conceptualisation or technical perfection, we can do it all! and that's why bryce is great!

You are not alone!!! I switched back to I.T. last Feb. and I've gained 30 pounds that I cant seem to shake off.

I eat healthy but too much... so you need to set a goal and try to achieve it, it wont be easy because you need to break bad habits.

There are lots of good advice here to be had, and your posting is a good start.
