Hi everyone :)

I just wanted to say hello.  Tho Im new to photography I have been on Renderosity for a long while now. I'm so glad to have a place where I can upload and get comments and suggestions. Anyone that would like to help out a newbe please feel free to do so, I have a lot to learn.

Study, study,study...

I guess my biggest suggestion is learn how your camera works..learn what it does..
Then, you can learn how to make it to what you want it to...

It is really important to understand how Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO  effect an image.

Most of the folks here are pretty good about explaining how they created an image.

Look at the EXIF data if it's provided on a gallery image..That my friend, tells you the whole story.

Glad you announced yourself, even if a member for a while. Glad to see you in the photo forum.

I am a self taught photographer and what Bruce has said about learning what your camera can do is rule one! The only tip I can add that has helped me (and is still helping me) is reading. I have a book on just about every genre in photography.

BTW - I have seen and commented on a lot of your work and you are pretty darn good... Maybe just look at your compositions!

Welcome Rob. You and I have something big in common. That is Olympus cameras. Sometimes you will think everybody uses Canon and Nikon...but not so. I began posting here in August 2008 using a new Olympus E-510 with the 14-42 and the 40-150mm lenses (got a good deal just before the E-520 came out). I added a 70-300mm lens a few months later and then upgraded cameras to an E-30 with a 12-60mm lens at the end of May 2009.

I am still learning everyday but if there is anything I can help you with, let me know. I am very pleased with my Olympus gear. All of it:-)

**Yes, we are friends and I enjoy looking at you stuff, The pics I mean LOL  With that lovely red hair and big attractive smile I thought I should clarify that  :-)    Compositions? I agree, and I think there is more about the camera too. I love my Olympus camera but it does a good job of hiding things like shutter speed with presets. Instead of learning what settings I should use for a macro I just select the macro preset and shoot. Easy to get started but when you want more???

I loved your Guard Dog pic, awesome :)  Olympus cameras are awesome! Composing I think is where I need the most work, its the little details that I seem to miss, then when pointed out I,m like "oh yeah" .

Hi Rob, I think you will find that everyone here is more then willing to help. There are lots of great tutorials and "how-to" threads to be had. One thing that has helped me alot are the challenges. They are a lot of fun and will get you to think and see "out of the box". Don't be afraid to ask someone how they made a particular look to a photo or how it was manipulated in postwork.

AND YES, IT'S ALL ABOUT FUN!!!! So get out there and have some!!!! LOL :P

If there is one thing I learnd... Its that Renderosity has an awesome group of people!  Thank you all for the help!    I know I have a long way to go yet and if yall can put up with my crazy humor from time to time I'll be areound for a while :) I'll be sure to check out the challenge threads as well as other peoples galleries, I learned alot from checking them out.
