Subject: where to get TreePro

flaxcrack ( ) posted Mon, 12 March 2001 at 3:24 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 12:24 AM

Hey guys where do I download TreePro at??? I mean there is a big fuss about it and I would like to get it.. Thanks... -Chris

coldrake ( ) posted Mon, 12 March 2001 at 8:08 PM

You can't download Tree Pro, and there is no demo. You can buy it here: http://www.OnyxTree.com/ Coldrake

JVogel ( ) posted Mon, 12 March 2001 at 10:31 PM

just dont ever use any of the trees in any of your pictures.. they will get you!

coldrake ( ) posted Mon, 12 March 2001 at 10:56 PM

JVogel, you can use them in your images, that's what the program is for. You just can't give away the meshes. Where in the world did you get that idiotic idea? Coldrake

calyxa ( ) posted Mon, 12 March 2001 at 11:30 PM

there was a Tree Pro demo on a CD that came with a book called "Kai's Magic Toolbox" which was all about Bryce 1 and Convolver and some KPT plugins... you might be able to find that book cheap somewhere. -calyxa

He probably got that idea from here. Are some shilling for software companies?

coldrake ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2001 at 2:35 AM

If he got that idea from that thread, he needs to read it again. Nope, not shilling for software companies, just trying to get people to understand why Onyx's eula is set up the way it is. Coldrake

DigitalDream#3 ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2001 at 2:52 AM

True, you can not give away the original meshes, but as the other thread states, they were giving away models from way modified meshes. Check the bell for instance. Does that look like a tree? Not to me. Time to find a more user friendly app.

Here are a couple of examples of his "unique variations". Actually he only modified one mesh, he bent the trunk a little. The meshes inyerface put up for download were straight out of the tree library that comes with Tree Pro. I wouldn't matter if he did modify them, they'd still be illegal to distribute. Coldrake

flaxcrack ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2001 at 8:18 AM

Wow, that sucks, no demo, nor downloadable stuff.. Hurmm.. I wonder... Does it need the CD to run..? And if so.... Hurmmm.... I bet I can get it..... The demo that is... If I find it would any one else like the link? Oh yeah how much does it cost..? -Chris

TryToFly ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2001 at 9:45 AM

flaxCRACK Your name gives a hint. Are you asking for the demo to crack it? Are you looking for a warez link that you are willing to share? Has this forum become a markethall for thiefs? Is this tolerated by the moderators and admins here? Oh, well ....

DigitalArtist ( ) posted Tue, 13 March 2001 at 9:45 AM

Hey now, Don't make a low blow toward the company because you're upset with the EULA. In essence poser does the same thing. I found this out when I e-mailed Ed Baumgaten about the wings in his "The Waiting" He told me that Poser meshes, modified or not, cannot be distributed. Zygote (or DAZ whatever they're called now)just covers this up by assuming if a pz3 is downloaded with a figure , you already have the original obj it came from pre-installed. The meshes in Tree Pro are modified yes, but as Coldrake said, they aren't of a completely new mesh, therefore, they are still property of Oynx, and the EULA can state if a party can or cannot distribute meshes. Why wouldnt they let you use them in images? I remember sometime last year, when a person converted meshes from Zygote and other places to DXF files and claming them as his own "modified creations" This is the same thing. Zygote threated court action, along with contacting the web host. Luckly he took them down. Anyway, I've beaten enough of this dead horse. Chris, I'm sure you can find pricing on the web site :) Regards, Matt

TryToFly, they've always been here :) I bet you alot of the people with MAX, photoshop, lightwave, and World Builder (Even bryce and poser) have it from warez.in fact I know they do...and it's a real shame :(

James_West ( ) posted Wed, 14 March 2001 at 2:38 PM

I've occasionally drooled over it, but the price is a little rich for my tastes. Hopefully, they'll decide it's not gold at some point and drop the price to something reasonable.

ookami ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2001 at 3:40 PM

Oh my god! I just checked out their site... besides the fact that the site itself sucks... $500?!! For that? That's more than I paid for Poser, Bryce and Vue put together! No wonder people are getting it from warez! I can't afford to blow $500 on TREES... no render engine... no bells and whistles... just... TREES....

DigitalArtist ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2001 at 4:25 PM

Keep in mind Onyx computing is only two people in essence.

ookami ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2001 at 4:56 PM

That's what makes it even MORE sickening... recouping the development costs for 2 people is peanuts as compared to recouping developing costs for say... a team of 10 programers, 4 artists, 2 supervisors and 1 team leader. That fact that they are only 2 people makes the $500 price tag even more outrageous! Sorry... I just can't see spending more for TREES than for all 3 of my rendering packages...

DigitalArtist ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2001 at 5:00 PM

I know how you feel, and I agree with you .

coldrake ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2001 at 5:05 PM

Keep in mind that it is not, and never was intended for the hobbiest. It was created for professionals, just like Photoshop, Max, Lightwave etc. I guess you have to own and use it to be able to appreciate what it can do. Coldrake

ookami ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2001 at 5:23 PM

Trust me... I can appreciate it just looking at the incredible pictures produced with their trees... it still doesn't justify the cost... no matter what market it is aimed at...

willf ( ) posted Sat, 17 March 2001 at 9:05 PM

It does seem rather high for a one-trick pony. Look at what you get with Photoshop (full) for about the same money. That app isn't geared towards the home market either. The other fact is that the trees are just an incidental part of the image for archicetural drawings anyway. Does anybody really want their customer to focus on how good the trees look? I suppose it all depends on your style. I do belive that they'd sell many more copies if it was priced right.

Try using PlantStudio. You can control each branch. You have to work with the variables of the plant to get it to look like a tree.
