Yes. Carrara does layers. As many as you have RAM for. The rust look has about 8 or 9 nested layes. The last image has only 4 layers.

Great looking through some of this stuff. Nice DR1 made one about 6 years ago not as nice but hey.ÂThis is a character I am working on for a web comic I plan to put together. Lots of preparation all original mesh I made in wings and render here in Messiah. Once I upgrade the hardware I will be rigging him and his partners.

The wit of a misplaced ex-patriot.
I cheated on my metaphysics exam by looking into the soul of the
person next to me.
Mine here is a 'wizards orb' on a simple wooden cube to simulate a table.
Â
I was doing it in between tweaking, printing out and framing a doz high quality photos for family Christmas prezzies, it then took 3 1/2 hours to render.
It has 6 spheres with different textures including volumetric, fractal and a photo of a brass backed crystal door nob as a mat on the centre orb and a bryce sweeping spiral with a starfield mat.
I was a bit dissapointed with the starfield as it didn't hold the 'glitter' when I rendered so I have to figure out how to adjust that, any hints will be welcome.

Zikeo,WOW! Those red eyes (and matching hair bow & tongue in the full shot) does really give it the creepy feel, especially with the cutsy micky mouse smile! I also think the way you have the moroon colour just at the base of the eyes enhances that feel. It is a tad creepier that I had thought with the original suggestion. Great work. Jen
Can't seem to get of the theme though.
Taken a bit further from the Mouse mesh and I've ended with a Duck.
Daffy, Howard not donald.
What I might do is a morphing duck in Carrara, between Daffy and Howard, using the filter cannister (not shown here).
Thanks again for the input.

Work continues with my accurate Space 1999, Eagle Transporter (series 1). This is roughly how the 3rd final render will look - still some thing to do with the terrain/environment. Modelled with Cinema 9.6 and rendered with Maxwell Render 1.7.

Shonner: Sorry, I meant does your material system support layers? If so you could keep that nice metal material but include paint chips and rust streaks like in your earlier image. The stuff I use it would be a matter of making an alpha mask to control various layers. Still a nice robot either way. It has an impression of something that would actually work.
