Subject: Problem with Joint Editor in Poser 8

hemi4261 ( ) posted Sat, 02 January 2010 at 10:13 AM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 10:41 AM

Hello, I posted this at DAZ but maybe some people here could be interested as well...

I have a question regarding the Joint Editor in Poser 8 SR 2.1. I have created a piece of clothing for V4.2 in Hexagon and have turned it into conforming clothing with OBJ2CR2. Worked out pretty well, but it needs some adjustment on the joints between hip and lthigh/rthigh for the "bend"-action.

Basically the InnerMatSphere needs to be moved a bit lower, I think. Now, when I just select (without even moving it!) the InnerMatSphere, the "Joint Center Point" (which was in the correct place before) drops to the origin point (0/0/0) in Poser (pic3).

I encountered the problem also with a freestuff panty I used for testing...
Maybe someone here can reproduce the problem. Try the V4 Basic Wear panties.

I just figured out that the problem is worse than I thought, I cannot enter coordinates (well, I can, but he doesn't react) for the center point, just adjust it by dragging and that is not very precise...

Any idea what could cause this?

I'd like to try to give you a hand but the pics are reduced a bit too much, can't read the text.  I don't quite understand what you're saying about with the "center point moving around" problem.  The problem where text boxes in Joint Editor is something I've got a ticket going for at Smith Micro, apparently not fixed.

Have you tried just rigging your swimsuit with the DAZ-supplied "V4 Dev" donor rig?  That's what I use.

Hi,
here are links to the pics on my webspace. I did the rigging with OBJ2CR2 using the V4.2 base figure (not the dev) but I don't think thats important in this case. I notice the same behaviour with other figures like your "Thin Brazilian Pant V4" (which is great by the way). Just try to manipulate the InnerMatSphere for lthigh bend (ytran for example). Good to hear that the problem with the text boxes in the Joint Editor has been reported to SM already.

On the last pic you can see where the Center Point has dropped.

Ah I see.  What happens if, right after that, you turn the camera?  I find that very often Poser will draw the inclusion/exclusion cone guides (the red and green L shapes) in the wrong place, but moving or turning the camera will force it to redraw correctly.

PS that behavior you see where the inclusion/exclusion guides drop to 0/0/0 does not happen for me (not even as a redraw bug).  Poser 8 SR 2.1.

BTW, hemi, those are gorgeous togs... if you need a tester...

I think I would make the neckline scoop a little less squared, but yeah it's a nice suit.

Thank you both. I will switch to my older version of Poser and try to get the rigging adjustments done in there. Here's a link to a pic with more details and a simle texture:

Be aware there's something going on with materials in Poser 8 that seems to make textured materials load with funky UV settings in older versions of Poser (version 6 for sure).  I never had problems with Poser 7 but a recent set of mats done in Poser 8 came out wrong in testing with Poser 6.  I haven't identified exactly what is funky, but I know it's a material setting, the tester was able to set up a "clean" material in P6 and it applied the UVmap correctly, but my P8 mat broke it again.

Ok, one more question, to exclude possible errors in my workflow. Normally I can adjust the joint parameters, while the swimsuit is conformed to V4, right?

Yes, and in fact you HAVE TO.  Just be sure to un-conform and zero everything before you save the figure again.
