Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
Dimension3D's Poser File Organizer or Runtime Repair are both excellent... the former more powerful maybe and the latter more simple to use. I have found no other tool that even touches Poser File Organizer for importance in correcting references, maintaining files and organizing runtimes. I use PFO to load all new content.
I don't know of a free solution aside from learning how to edit Poser files in EditPad Lite... a very powerful PC notepad that can handle HUGE poser files on multiple tabs with no slow down.
I've been able to do batch fixes of pz2s file reference problems - 8 files, 1.2 minutes - using Poser File Editor. It does so much more, too. A must-have for the serious Poser developer... handy for the casual Poser user, but its powerful-ness cuts both way, so be careful.

Sometimes one gets files from others who have their images on their desktop:
"C:Documents and SettingsFrankThePutzDesktopPoserTotallyAwesomeImagesimage1.jpg"
that the file then tries to find on your system. Tools like this make fixing files quick and easy.

Geeze. Didn't expect all the help from you all so quickly. Really great. Its going to take a little bit to grasp all this new knowledge but I'll be wanting to ask about the difficulty in using these 2 programs ( Dimension 3d and File Organizer ) For the couple of years working with Poser an many years building and messing with computers there's still alot for me to learn. I'm definitly not at any of your levels but its just re-asuring to know that there's people like you to help. The money thing really wasn't an issue. I'm sorry I threw that in about looking for a freebie. Will be back. Peace. gk
Any program that makes changes to a Poser file carries a certain amount of implicit risk. Best practice is to always work on a copy of a file you want to correct. That way you risk nothing.

RobysVeil. Your reply is a wise one and one I've learned from past losses. Thank you just the same. Luckily. thru some strange act of nature or God my number of potential losses from my Referencing problem has shrunk and those I've found a way to rebuild them on the troubled computer. Is that a true picture of yourself or just another lovely creation. Truely, quite lovely. Again, Thank You for your reply. gk
Hi gkanz - no, I only wish I looked that good... I'm old and ... well, let's just say that although I try to keep reasonably fit, there's just so much you can do.
The figure is a freebie (Charlotte) you can download for free - just look under freebies of mine on here, and so is the hair: Kozaburo's Bobbed Hair...

Quote - The easiest thing for you to do, is to make sure that you've got your runtime in the same place (drive and folder) on both PCs.
Dizzi has the right idea. The "no disc" message implies that on the PC where the project works, you had something (probably a texture) saved to a drive which doesn't exist on the other PC. If you were to move the texture-or-whatever into Poser's Runtime folder structure and save the project again, I suspect it would work.
Alternatively, as suggested in PhilC's forum, you could use the Scene Inventory Python script to collect everything into a self-contained archive of the project.

Greetings. My first post with you all and perhaps not my last so I hope what I may be asking your help for will be understood. I've created Many different projects in Poser 7 that I will be rendering into animated movie shorts. I Installed a 2nd copy of Poser on a seperate computer and want to use that computer to do just the rendering and avi creating. Problem is I'm getting a " NO DISC" error message when I try to open some of these projects and also some of the character figures I've created on this other computer. After talking to someone at Smith Micro I was told ( in so many words ) it was a "referencing problem" and that there were different free tools out there that would help with that problem and also some forums that may be be able to explain things. He told me to head on out to the people at Rederosity to get some help. So, my first question will be: Help! Is there any help for my problem? Sure would appreciate it if you can. Thanx. gk
