Subject: Carrara7 UI issue

ninhalo5 ( ) posted Sun, 10 January 2010 at 8:51 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 5:58 PM

I posted this over at DAZ but no one answered, maybe someone here knows:

Hi, I have a problem with Carrara 7 I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so what did they do to fix it.

Whats happening is I'll open carrara to a empty scene (any scene really).
and anything that is selectable whether it's from the file/edit etc.. pull down menus, the browser, properties panel or whatever I get a grab hand icon instead of the regular pointer.

The hand icon will not allow me to select anything, if I'm trying to use something from a pull down menu such as exit, save or even create a sphere those windows will just close.

Now if I have Carrara open and the hand icon appears I can leave Carrera sit for 15 minutes and I'll get the pointer back for a couple clicks then it will disappear again.

I am thinking this might be a hardware problem possibly a setting that can be changed?

I have no problems running any other programs such as Studio, Maya, Poser etc..

Im using Vista home x64 though I doubt that would be an issue, with an i7 core processor. all my other x32 programs run just fine even Maya 8 which is not even designed for Vista Smile

Any ideas?

Thanks

on another note does anyone know where to find some good tutorials for Carrara 7?  most of the tuts I find are for 6 and below and it seems they don't work in 7. either that or the way to access the the properties are different. some items I can not get a property box to make my adjustments.

Thanks

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling C7?

ninhalo5 ( ) posted Sun, 10 January 2010 at 9:16 AM

no I just bought it and installed it for the first time 2 days ago, I'll give it a try maybe it got corrupted somehow

If you had any previous versions of Carrara on the system, you may want to zap them before you install 7.  Just in case.

I get that problem on occasion too. Instead of leaving it to sit for 15 minutes, I close Carrara and work on the computer, in about half an hour if I open Carrara it might be back to normal, if not, I restart the computer and then it definitely is back to normal. At least so far rebooting always fixed it. I use XP 64, though.

I also noticed that this phenomenon is more likely to happen when I watch streaming video while Carrara is actively running (doing some computations, or I go back and forth while the streaming is on). But this could just be a coincidence, or it could be the particularity of the problem on my hardware.

Hmm interesting, in fact I've had video up every time this has happened trying to look at tutorials, youtube or something. I wonder what would cause such a thing. I'll test that out with videos and submit a bug report if that is the case.

Although "the hand" come back from time to time, hitting the space bar always helped me to remove it and let me work on.

It is a well known bug connected with watching videos. Use the space bar workaround.

GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2

Cool I'll give it a try

Thanks everyone

Same here after watching videos. And a similar problem with Poser. I just reboot the computer.
