Whats your method for panelling Shawn? Bevel extrude or something more intricate.

Lots of tesselation and extruding of faces.  The detail paneling are three procedural textures used as a diffuse, highlight, and bump map.

ShawnDriscoll: Nice progress with your Azhanti High Lightning ship. Will you be texturing this model?

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Wed, 06 January 2010 at 2:00 PM

I'm not sure yet.  I might just throw greebles on it for added texture.

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Thu, 07 January 2010 at 1:03 AM

**Becco_UK,

**I ended up shrinking the scale of my procedural plate texture and that gave the ship some better texture.  I used the diffuse texture as a bump also.  See my gallery for the latest render in modo.

For some odd reason, this is what I've been modeling. Fairly recognizable, isn't it? So no explanation there. Still more to go.

Is the body all one mesh?  Or separate parts?

www.youtube.com/user/ShawnDriscollCG

pauljs75 ( ) posted Mon, 11 January 2010 at 12:30 AM

It's mostly one mesh. (Also no underbody, since I don't know what's going on there. I suppose somebody could hack the model apart and add stuff after I'm done with it, if that kind of detail is needed.) Doors are separate parts though. Side door will be last thing afaik, since it's the one thing that's notably asymetric on the vehicle. If you look under Wings3D/WIP in the galleries, you'll see some of the wireframe too.

nice Trav stuff Shawn. Zeiko nice character how is rigging in Carera I have carrera 7 pro but did not put any time into it. Bekko nice take on Dr. Who not really a fan though at times it is brilliant and other times.... Paulus in the air force one of my buiddies had one of those vans got it for the price of a battery.

Anyways I have a few renders in mind based on known space by Larry Niven this is my belter girl. She lives in low to zero gravity most of her life so her proprotions are different long and lithe. Still working out shaders and then will rig and set up a series of morph targets will go over a few more times to clean up any geometry I need to. She has a helmet too.

Great Stuff Guys. Interesting character Dann-O. My latest is a start on a 1950's automobile. The steel wheel and tyre are done and I'm well into the bodywork. The bodywork mesh is looking very tatty at the moment, I will show the body after some tidying up. Z

Thats interesting - how do you align the bonnet and?

ZIKEO ( ) posted Sun, 14 February 2010 at 5:07 PM

Hi there AirFlames.
I first constuct a complete body shell with the bonnet, door and any other appertures in the mesh.
Then cut them out, thicken and delete the underside. After which I bevel/chamfer  the edges.
Hope that helps?

pauljs75 ( ) posted Tue, 16 February 2010 at 8:16 AM

Sunbeam, MG, Aston Martin, or one of those lesser known brands like Panther or such?

I've done the tire modeling before, but be careful doing it that way. It's funny just how high that polygon count can go. I've heard some folks say that normal maps are the way to go with making treads, provided the tools are there to do it.

Looks great though. And yeah, the "top down" way is easier for making most vehicles than the "bottom up" way when doing polygon modeling.

I'll give you a clue.

So it would be -

"Something" Cars Ltd

Paul-just trying out the possabilities of modelling tread and to see if I could do it.
The smoothing seems to be okay at the moment and not noticeably slowing anything down.
