Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 07 3:27 pm)
Welcome to the Poser! There are several Tutorials for Content Management here at Renderosity and other sites. Smith Micro's Tutorials in the Support Section have some as well.
The concept of having all the related Figures content in their own Runtime Library is using Poser's ability to have Multiple Runtimes.
The newer DAZ3D (V4, M4, etc..) figures present a complication, in that the installer wants you to install them into the Program Files Folder of Poser on Windows (this is not an issue for MAC users) Poser has not required this since Poser 5 was released and allowed for multiple Runtimes. Starting with Poser 7 SR3, you have had the option to have the Main Runtime located outside of the Program Files Folder. You can work around this restriction of the DAZ3D Installers by creating a Poser.exe File using Notepad and placing that in the Folder where you wish to install the content and then link that Folder to Poser as an external Runtime Library.
In general, you do not want to move Content around after installing. Files have relations to each other and need to be maintained. If you move something you need to move the related files along with the file you want moved.
Search here or at Smith Micro for Content Management Tutorials. There are also a few good threads on Content Management here... maybe someone that has links handy will post some of those specific locations. Here is the one at Smith Micro that may help you get started...

Thanks for replying so quick. I did go on smithmicro and I tried it, but it did not work. It is porbably human error on my part. What you suggest is way over my head and would need step by step instructions on how to do that (poser exe file) .
I will continue to search. I don't care if I have to reinstall everything. I would just like to get it organized at an early stage.
Thanks
Be aware, once you establish an installation link with one product, it will 'remember' the link upon the next installation of another content. At the point, it will ask if you would like to install into 'default' or select a new runtime folder. I get this whenever I install executable files from DAZ.
BTW, welcome to our insane world. Feel free to jump right into the forum whenever you have a question or problem. I would imagine we will see more of you over the next few days.
Let me know exactly what stumped you and I will see if I can help you from there... There use to be a Post with links for Poser FAQs here... I am not seeing it today... maybe someone will jump in with the Post Link... it had links to a lot of the various Threads and Tutorials here and elsewhere.

What stumps me is when I am installing the file the only option it gives me is c:Daz content. Since I am a newbie I am not sure of myself enough to direct it to another path at installation. For instance V4 clothes. If I knew where it went I could type it in and hopefully that would work.
Hope I am making sense.
And thanks for welcoming me. I am usually too shy to speak up in forums but this problem really baffles me.
Here is the link I believe ratscloset is referring to. Acadia has done an excellent job consolidating many tutorials and discussions into one sticky post.

What is the Product... is it a Poser Item, or a DAZ Only item? It sounds like it is something specific for DAZ Studio, not Poser.
If you want, contact Smith Micro Tech Support (and put Attn: John in the Subject) I will see if I can help you after getting more details.

daz installers for poser stuff offer the daz studio folder as the defaut installation place and you have to manually navigate to get to the right area, so my guess it is just something she bought for poser from the daz website.

I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
Find a disk where with a lot of space as your runtimes will grow. I made a folder called PoserAll.
When you are in the middle of using the daz installer there's something like choose to find a place to install the file, and at in the window on your desktop that appears there should be an option to create new folder. Call your new folder V4 and continue the installation. Install the victoria Elite into the same folder ie your V4 folder.
If you are using an older version of poser than poser 7 let me know because then there will be one more extra little step.

Quote - I bought Victoria Elite and Victoria bundle from Daz. I don't know how to manually navigate to the right area as I am not familiar with the file structure (yet).
Every item has a READ ME, in it you find usually a text file called Product List, in that you find the locations for each file that belongs to the purchased item.
Don't install new stuff into your Poser runtime. Install it at some other place and then put them manually into the folders as you'll find the locations in the product list of the ReadMe.
I would put the ◊4 into her own runtime in the your PoserAll folder, then add the runtime from within poser rather than installing manually somewhere. It's easier and works well.

Well! back pain woke me up at 3 this morning so I decided to unistall poser and start with a fresh clean library.
My library is so clean that Pose doesn't work. I even did the update. It is now noon and after the fourth install I am now doing a system restore.
In case you are wondering why I am having so much trouble is that I live in the country where I only have dial up. I wait till I am in the city and download all the things that i want on a stick and bring it home. I am sure it would be a lot easier if I could do it through Poser but that is not an option for me.
Well my system restore is done and when I started Poser it told be that it could not find the room tabs and was closing down. I guess I keep plugging away at it. Will let you know how things are going later this evening. Adios
Hi!
I need someones help here. I finally got to the point where I created a Victoria runtime file folder in C:runtimes/Victoria, then I went into Poser and created a file called Victoria Series.
When I click on the Add to Library I can navigate to where victoria 4.2 base is installed but it cannot find the runtime. Nevermind....I just clicked on the whole file and it took it...Hurray!!! I am making progress. I will learn and conquer .....Hope I am on the right track.
I went into Poser once I did that a what do you know it worked....I would like to thank everyone who helped me on this... I am a little slow at catching on but when I do "I am good to go" Life will be good and organized. I was able to understand Estherau's instructions.
This has been a good experience for my first time in a forum.... and again Thank you so much.

I have purchased Poser8 and the tutorial cd for begginers. By lurking through the forums and Youtube it became apparent that I have to organize my library at the onset before it gets out of hand. I think I am a liitle too late. As a newbie I downloaded quite a few poses, props, hair, clothes etc....
I did see on Youtube that a person was able to make a file folder for Victoria4 and put all of her contents in that file folder in each category.
For the life of me I cannot understand how to do this. I have searched and tried quite a few things but nothing seems to work.
When I installed items it went into my c drive under Daz content and appeared wherever it wanted to in my library. I have Victoria Elite in Props, I have Vicotria hair in Figures etc....
Can anyone help me step by step on how to organize my library in Poser8 just like the fella in Youtube. I would ask him but I cannot find the movie that I watched.
Thanks
