Subject: Interesting discovery with pose files

markm ( ) posted Tue, 24 July 2001 at 10:16 PM · edited Sat, 28 December 2024 at 3:36 AM

Hi all . With the latest craze in using pose files to set materials , textures , and characters I decided to create my own for a character of mine using Victoria 2 . I wanted it to apply the morphs for the character without moving any of the body parts or affecting the pose in any way . What I did was open the pose up and remove every section for rotation and translation for every part . It works great , I can pose the figure with any pose and then apply the body style without it moving anything other than what it's supposed to . With the success with this I made a copy of the pose to experiment with . I wanted to see if I could make a pose file read a full body morph . Poser doesn't save full body morph information to pose files ( at least mine doesn't anyway) so I thought maybe I could add it on my own so I used the copy and deleted the information for every body part except for the hip and renamed it BODY and left the information for the barbarian morph in , set it to 1 and deleted all the other morph information . I didn't really think it would work but I was surprised , It works just fine . I'm going to play with it some more and try to put together a pose file for all of Victoria 2's full body morphs .

Good work :) I'd love to see a text example too.

Thanks for sharing this, this will come in handy for many of us!

Sounds like good tutorial material to me...

markm, this is very interesting indeed. I tried to reproduce what I understood you to say, but it had no effect: { version { number 4.01 } actor BODY:1 { channels { targetGeom Barbarian { keys { k 0 1 } } } } } Am I understanding you correctly, or did I miss something? CR2Edit will make MOR files, but your post got me poking into it, and it wasn't doing PBM/FBM completely, it was generating something very similar to what you seem to be describing. However, when I changed the code to change the keys in ALL refs to Barbarian, not just the Body, it did work, tho seemed to have minimal effect. Please tell us more about what you have discovered. thanks, Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/cr2edit.html Sorry Win only for software http://www.zenwareonline.com for ZenPaint, ZenTile, ZenGrid and VueMaster

Okay , here is a screen shot of the file . All I did was use the pose I had already created earlier and using a normal pose as an example to get all the spacing right , identified the beginning and end of the file and made sure to leave them in . Then I deleted every thing other than the beginning , the hip , and the end of the file . I deleted all of the morph channels from the hip except for the barbarian morph and I set it to 0 1 . After that I just saved it and tested it . I was really surprised that it worked . dwilmes , I marked the end of the file in a red box because that may be why yours didn't work .

markm ( ) posted Wed, 25 July 2001 at 4:53 PM

Oh yeah , I forgot to mention that I renamed the hip to BODY . I don't know if has to be all uppercase letters but everytime I have seen "body" in a cr2 it has been in uppercase and it works so I just did what they did.

dwilmes ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 1:16 PM

Well, sure am puzzled here. Even when I exactly duplicated what you have, all I got was a slight twitch in the hip -- perhaps I am expecting something more dramatic, and it IS working? The stuff in the red box and the "thighLength" at the top can go, you can test this by deleting them in one of the poses that comes with Vicki. But I even left them in in my test, to be positive. I get the same result with the MOR File Creator in the latest build of CR2Edit; very little effect with ERC stuff in general, tho the regular morphs work fine, looks like more research and experimentation is in order. Either I am expecting the morph to do more than it does, or you have a very special Poser there, markm! (or mine is very UN-special, LOL!) Anyway, this is an area ripe for experimentation, thanks for taking the time to let us know what you are finding. Capitalization: sometimes it matters, sometimes not, so the safest thing to do is keep it the same as the original. markm ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 3:09 PM

Thats wierd , it applies the full barbarian morph with mine . I haven't tried any other morphs yet so maybe it is just a fluke . Thanks for the info about the thighlength and end of page stuff , I just assumed it was important and left it alone. By the way I bought your CR2Edit , it's a good program although I haven't really used it ( I suppose I'm a little old fashioned using a text editor ) . What is the MOR file ?

dwilmes ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 4:24 PM

Same file, different results -- typical Poser, LOL! Someone has a PZ3 that VueMaster has trouble with, he sent me the file and it works fine on my machine, still haven't figured it out. CR2Edit: are you Mark Mc*******? Please email me at info@zenwareonline.com so I can add your email to my database to keep you posted. If you are the above, I have you listed as having 4.12, there is a free update available. A MOR file is what you made above, ver5 automates the production of these, but the new editor is capable of opening any file faster than anything else I know of, no size limit, dual windows for two files at once, etc. Dan http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/cr2edit.html Sorry Win only for software http://www.zenwareonline.com for ZenPaint, ZenTile, ZenGrid and VueMaster

markm ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 9:10 PM

Yes thats me . Are you running the pro pack on your copy of poser ?

dwilmes ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 9:18 PM

Nope, a late beta of MetaCremations P4, I found it the most stable of the P4's, build 118 I think. The PPP could possibly be doing something different, tho ERC works fine for me. Anyone else reading this want to give it a try? Everything you need is in markm's pic. markm ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 9:43 PM

I'm don't have the pro pack either , just Poser with the latest patch from Curious Labs ( 4.0.3 I think thats the latest , I haven't checked in a while ) .

mysticwinter ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 9:51 PM

Copied everything done in the picture above.. it worked for me with no trouble :o) Thanks markm

dwilmes ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 10:35 PM

Superdumb mistake here, I was putting V2 file on V2P4 CR2! It works fine, in your form or the short one I gave, or as produced by CR2Edit5.03. M.W., More Tools/MOR File Creator, takes just a few seconds. There is a tutorial, but it really is easy. But for the FBM/PBM ones to work, I think you need to upgrade, it would be a free one, check your Help/Check Current etc. markm, thanks for all your input, I had what you are doing in CR2Edit already, but I thought the FBM/PBM didn't work at all, but it was the wrong model -- if you hadn't brought this up I'd probably still be staring blankly at the code, LOL!
