Many experienced users in versions prior to C7. Having C7 is irrelevant to identifying bugs. I would not expect a real cloth solution, however, the Bullet physics engine I do believe is the way to go and will allow some functioning in this direction. Yet to see a good cloth sim w/ Bullet, but probably on par w/ Poser at least. Cloth is less important than a decent physics foundation.

> Quote - I finally got around to doing a render with the beta...damn! > Check it out [ here](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2018830) if you like. (It's slightly dirty)Absolutly agree to your image coment.I don't see many news at first sight but 64bit and increased renderspeed is a must have .looking foreward to full release. Here is my test render:
My first posted cararra render was done in c8. The render time on this one really surprised me. I thought I'd be off watching tv while I waited, but it was done in 5 minutes.

Yeah, I get quite a bit of those too, but I expect that. I'm also not running a prime graphics machine either, so I run into memory and cpu issues. Anyone render any sunbeams/godlights? I tried for that on that render but got nothing. I'd be interested to know what atmosphere settings were used.
Soooo.....anyone got $3000 to spare for a new pc?
Drat!
Hi Madbat,
There's a thread in the DAZ Carrara forums about the sunbeams; they're tricky to set up-it's all done in the Realistic Sky editor. I did get 'em to work eventually...
I'm getting the same stability issues on a cheap PC and on my badass workstation. (I really only spent $800 on it!)
I'm surprised how fast C8 renders on both machines, but the 64Bit version definitely has the edge.
I'm looking forward to the next beta release with the Bullet Physics Engine for soft/rigid dynamics!
Hi. I don't have the beta and don't have the time at the moment to test it, but was hoping somebody might be able to answer question regarding the camera. I've been learning Daz Studio and the camera can be set to depict different formats (4:3, 16:9) and displays a box showing the render area. As I plan to use both Carrara and Daz Studio (for my project) I was wondering if the new version has the same camera setup. I hope so as it would really help me match things up.
Sincerely,
David
Hi Pedrith!
Carrara can currently do what you need!
You can specify whatever render dimensions you'd like and the production frame will re-size accordingly.
Honestly, when the time comes, you'll be able to get a lot more done if you use Carrara by itself and cut DS out of the equation. DS's Puppeteer controls are on their way to C8 I believe too :)
To be fair, I use Daz 3 quite a bit. While it's not a modeler or landscape editor like Cararra, it's handy for putting together a scene, and the light and shader systems aren't bad at all. Poser rigs which Daz doesn't, and neither cost as much as Cararra, which is good for the hobbyist on a budget, like me. I got lucky and picked Cararra up on sale for less than half price at the right time, otherwise I wouldn't be enjoying it right now.
But, jt411 is right, Cararra does everything D|S does and more. I know I'll be using Daz less as I get to know C7/8 more. It would be really nice if C did a better job importing D|S scenes. so far all I ever manage to get is a pair of boots. I'd love to re-render all my D|S scenes in C8 to see the difference.
DAZ Studio may not rig but Carrara does.

Just to clarify

Yes, I should have clarified:
Daz doesn't rig without the plugin, whereas poser will. Cararra models and rigs. I wish It exported rigging though, that would be handy for sharing with poser/Daz users. If you want to make something rigged for all three apps, your still looking at using multiple apps, one to create, and another to rig and texture for Poser/Daz use. One app to handle all three would be nice.

Great work guys! So far C8 is shaping up to be one of the fastest renderers around!
On the negative side, I'm running into some stability issues with it now; lock-ups during the pre-render calculations. This IS a beta build, so hopefully DAZ irons out the bugs!
Apologies if this is obvious, but please remember to report bugs as you encounter them :)
I have a couple of quick questions on the C8 64 bit Beta install - it is asking to install in c:program filescarrara8 which would normally be ok, but I am running a Quadcore with 8GB of ram running Win 7 64 bit. Normally, when programs install they default to c:program files(x64).
Does anyone know the reason for this?
The install program does allow me to obviously choose a different destination folder, but something about this prompting did not sit well so I did not install the beta.
Also, has anyone encountered serious problems with the C8 beta requiring a re-install. The Quadcore I am using is my main system for work, so while part of me really wants to test C8's 64 bit render engine, I don't want to have to reinstall Win 7 again.
Thank you in advance,
rDogg
I have yet to install the last two betas successfully. It tries to write to the correct programs directory [(x86) is my non 64 bit program directory] but simply cannot write to the directories it creates. I can't change permissions to make them writable at all. But so far I haven't heard anything good about the last two beta releases, so I went back to C7 pro.
The way it's looking is that the C8 release is going to be full of bugs. The last two beta releases were supposed to be THE pre-release, but they wound up even more unstable than the initial beta's were. I've beta tested my share of software over the last 13 years, and I'm not soaking money into this from what I've seen so far. I may stick with c7pro and save up for vue or some such.
