It's been ages since we had one of these. I thought it might be fun to have another bash.
So, when you're busy rendering.......What are you listening to?

And if you're not rendering......What are you reading?

Lol!

Listening to:
Jennings' Little Hut
Jim Al-Kalili on Desert Island Discs
The Mister Men: Let's Go to Misterland
Red Dwarf - Better Than Life
The Mark Steel Lecture: Oliver Cromwell
The Midnight Folk: Episode1
Baldi - series2
and I really wish The News Quiz was still being made, I can only get old ones now... sob!
And if there are any new ones:
Falco.
"Shadows in Bronze" has just finished.

Reading, during the day:
Laura Marks: The Skin of the Film.
Vivian Sobchack: Meta Morphing
The Address of the Eye
The Persistance of History
Screening Space
David Bordwell: Poetics of Cinema
Film Art
John Berger: Ways of Seeing (this is also available on YouTube as the BBC 4 Programme)
Paul Wells: Re-Imagining Animation

Reading at Night:
Agatha Christie (all my old favourites)
And James Hilton's Lost Horizon

Watching... haven't had a lot of time for watching as I'm usually animating, but I have sitting waiting for me to watch:
Watchmen
Paprika
Blade Runner, Director's Cut
Tales from Earthsea
Neon Genesis: Evangelion: Platinum
Barton Fink

What I've actually watched recently, includes:
Nim's Island
The Tale of Despereaux

and some of the Evangelion
and the Pixar Short Films Collection.

I should really watch all the "to be watched" list, except Barton Fink as they are meant to inform my Dissertation... sigh.

I am also trying to divide my animation up into sections for music and sound effects, and I need to time all that - as soon as this latest render finishes...

Please can I have some more hours in the days?

Yup I already listened to that one tonight as well - on BBC iPlayer, as I too can't get TV - I have no TV.

How about QI XL- Gravity?
and
The Goon Show
OOOH!  I just spotted:
Georgette Heyer's Regency Buck.... lovely.
It's not my favourite of her books, that's probably "Venetia" ooooh, it would be wonderful if they'd do that one.

I see new Falco's have just begun with "Venus in Copper".
And Baldi: Twilight of a God.

The radio's fine, I can listen to that while a render is progressing, but "QI XL - Gravity" is going to have to wait until the render is finished, as my PC can't manage sound and picture as well as the render.

Rosie, I did find a snippet of a sound byte with Simon Hoggart saying that he saw no reason for the News Quiz to stop:
Simon Hoggart on the shelf-life of The News Quiz
so it must have been a different series that was coming to an end - thank goodness for that!

Have I Got News For You 38

Ah off to Singapore today? You'll miss that episode then, but there's sure to be another one.  The one above ends at 10.29pm tonight, as it's a half hour prog, you'd need to start watching it at least by 10pm tonight UK time.

I used to really like Mock The Week as well, but after they had Frankie Boyle on it for a number of episodes I went right off it, he's a mean person and his humour is nasty, leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.

But you don't need a TV - at least I don't - I use my PC and watch Catch up TV off the BBCiPlayer website - can't you do that too?

For those who´s into progressive/emotional metal I´d like to recommend a polish band that´s called Riverside

For now I´m mostly listening to these:
Opeth
Uriah Heep (early 70´s version)
Eddie Cochran
Nick Drake

..and reads literature on neurology and ancient Rome

Good spelling is overaytead

pakled ( ) posted Thu, 18 February 2010 at 10:29 AM

I've gotten a lot of Riverside off the Interne
t (likes 'em lots),. but in this area, if it doesn't sell a million copies, you dont' stock it...:|
Lessee...made it past Onerepublic, through clockwork quartet, radiohead, the postal service, and couldn't find any Temperance Seven
I've heard some Lacuna Coil, I think even with Collide (or was it Ariya) as a co-written project. Havta look that up.

(I have a very strange way of finding new music; I go to really specialized forums (the latest is Brass Goggles), and find the 'what are you listening to', then run their choices through lastfm and Youtube to see what's what. Found some interesting choices, but at least my ears aren't calcifying on 'classic rock'..;)

Fran..
in singapore right now..  a weekend of tons of wine and walking thru carnival type lanes and malls and street lanes.. oh.. the works. Boiling hot though. Got till friday out here.. ..

nopes..i can't watch even watch British tv on the net.  You guys down in the UK have to pay a tv tax.. and since we outsiders can't pay it..we don't get to see anything... not even in any of the European countries. Gov't law. It gets blocked even from the net. I watch the stuff I like on youtube.. poor substitute..but what to do?

Why does this post contain multiple advisory warnings, btw??? I mean.. talking of bands and tv programs and books.. and ok..rayraz in the mosh pit.. .. amusing.

 @rosie:

I think the thread contains multiple advisories because i marked my post about the genitorturers with multiple advisories..

after all, i wouldnt want to be responsible for a random kid that loves rock music to get grounded cuz his mom hears lyrics about BDSM, pussy worship, etc. blasting from his bedroom while the kid might not even be realizing what he's listening to :)

Not to mention some of the grown ups around here might take offense to the lyrics as well...

I suppose the powers that be could remove the advisories i put on those posts if they decide my written warning is sufficient, but i didnt really wanna risk any trouble.

rayraz.. that's a sensible idea.. now that you've explained it. I don't think the powers that be would delete it.. it's always wise to be safe than sorry...

btw.. a mosh pit???? Isn't that a bit dangerous or is it just the way it looks on tv?

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 22 February 2010 at 10:28 AM

Thats what i thought :) its a good band thou! catchy tunes :D or nice atmosphere to it.. or sometimes just to shake things up a little :-P

Well.. some moshpits are dangerous.. it kinda depends. The ones at drum&base parties arent that wild, they're kinda easy, any beginner can enter them and if i can split the entire pit in two with my less then 70kilo's.. its really not that dangerous hahaha

But yea there are some bands where people do come out the pit bleeding... but i havent been in one of those :)
I have seen people coming out the pit limping or with what seemed to probably be bruised rib(s) or such.. but so far the worst i've had myself was gettin the air knocked outta me a few times and once i almost got knocked out by a really big dudes elbow, but i managed to stay on my feet and no 5 minutes later i floored him (and helped him back up) so its all good :D

ohh nice track there orbital!

here's some of my hits for the week:

Benga - Roller:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXLBO-_svG4
(there's this one sample with 2 notes of a kinda lounge organ synth like thing in there.. it plays maybe.. 10 notes in the whole track, but its such an unbelievably perfect synth.. simple yet full bodied sound.. couldnt have been mastered any better to the track either.. ah im just in love with it)

Randy Barracuda - Ketamine Struct:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPPeFy7jtdY
(Amazing videoclip! I wish i came up with it! lol)

Cragga - Please MR. Postmen:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_VFU4dKsr8
(finally someone made a proper dubstep remix of a motown track without raping it!)

Emalkay - When I Look At You (Sduk Remix):  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsgLL2hM3Tc
(Some nice ambient dubstep, no wobbles, but a bass to die for)

Indidginus - Spiritual Spearmints:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StQUCDlpPm4
(really nice atmospheric track, the sound is somewhere between that of goa, and something you'd expect in a track by Carbon Based Lifeforms)

Carbon Based Lifeforms - erratic patterns:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztfmCOAJTWA
(Almost hypnotic atmospheric track, which strangely seems to have some actual swing to it. The lyrics are very inspiring as well)

Osmani Soundz - Spiritual Master Key:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi8558G5CXo
(oldschool jungle with a bengali vibe)

Dub Zero - Ragga Vibes:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAJJQ8SI0fg
(Must be one of the catchiest d&b/jump up tracks I've heard in ages!)
