Subject: Help Please. Taking fabric jpegs or pngs to poser 8 mat5 ot mc6 files.

 Is there a way to take png and jpeg fabric swatchs i have and use them in poser 8. Turn them into mc6 or mt5 files? I have a ton of them and want to use them instead of making the pz2 files and creating a whole new outfit and creating new runtimes.
I am somewhat familiar with poser 8 mat room and fabric rooms but still learning, with no luck searching the forums for my answer. Any help would be great. Any tutorials or forum threads would be helpful.
I am creating posers for sale and want to expand my fabric selection for a lot of my outfits i already have. Thanks for the help.

A lot depends, Callie, on how accurate you want your texture to look on the figure. The simplest approach is to go into the material room (adv tab), create a new imageMap node. So, select your item and your material zone, then:

right-click on the material room floor and from the pop-up menu select
New Node ->
2D Texture ->
image_map

Connect this to the Diffuse_Color channel of your big PoserSurface node (the top channel). Then, in that imageMap node, for the Image_Source channel, find your texture.

You will find that the resulting render is fairly unsatisfactory.

Have a look in your runtime:textures folder... find a clothing item you like and check out what the developer did. He or she probably created an image (textureMap) to fit onto the clothing. See if the item you wish to texture has a UVMap... if not, you can make one with UVMapper by Steve Cox. Use this as your template for your clothing texture.

I've been playing with Kamilche's Stitch Witch, which does a very slick job of making textures for clothing. It's a bargain if you want to do this more than just casually...

I'm not sure I'm understanding you correctly, but I think you can just load them as a diffuse color image map and then save the material.

I did forget to add, Callie, that you can save this "shader" (node set) into a material room library. You can then apply the texture to other areas.

I'd have a play with Stitch Witch... you wouldn't be necessarily making textures to sell, but it does make texturing incredibly easy with features which takes the pain out of getting things to line up right. As with anything, there is a bit of a learning curve.

There are some SW users on the PfDLives forum... they have a tutorial to help make the process a bit clearer. Signing up is free...
