Subject: Daz Studio 64 bit for the Mac

Pedrith ( ) posted Sat, 13 March 2010 at 4:43 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 9:08 PM

Does anybody know if Daz Studio is a 64 bit application for the mac, or if they are developing it as 64 bit application?

David

Good question. I'd like to know too.

Hi Esther.  Yeah.  I have an 2007 Mac Pro and am running both 10.4.11 and Snow Leopard on a second hard drive.

Sincerely,

David

Well lucky is not exactly where things are at.  The video card is being completely erratic and only working some of the time.  Worse yet everything I've looked into video card wise is not compatible with the machine or isn't compatible with the software I use.

We now have an Apple store in town so I'm going to swing by on the weekend and see what they recommend.

 Ottawa, capital of Canada :)

I am running DS 2.3 and DS 3 Advanced on my Mac Pro, but I'm running Leo 10.5. I do have some re-draw issues (openGL prob) but it's minor. Other than that, both versions run flawlessly on my machine.  I'm using the stock NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card that came with this machine.

I do hope DAZ comes out with a 64bit version soon. Of course for it to be practical, we'd also need 64 bit versions of some of the plug-ins as well.  (AniMatePlus, RenderThrotle come to mind)

No 64 bit Studio for the mac at this time but several users are reporting the 10.6.3 updated fixed a big problem with the redraw issue that seemed to plague Snow Leopard.

estherau ( ) posted Fri, 02 April 2010 at 10:51 PM

I just worry about getting into DS because they seem to fix things so slowly (not talking about the video glitch with the OS) but other mac things like not having 64 bit yet.
And the really slow saves of big scenes etc.
And the paid toon plugin (can't remember what it was called) that had a black problem with the materials etc.  Everything just seems to take way too long to get fixed.
And they said they would have dynamic clothes for  mac (yes I now they outsourced so they were dependant on someone else,) and it never eventuated.

The really slow saves are also evident in 64 bit Windows and 32 bit Windows as well, but unfortunately like any company that makes cross platform software the Mac bugs tend to be fixed at lesser rate then the Windows ones.

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 11 April 2010 at 7:26 AM

I was really hoping that 64 bit would help the really slow saving problem.  I'll now just have to hope that the mac will work even better when they get the mac version done (if they ever get it done)

the 64bit is being developed ...

when we'll get it i don't know ;(

Pedrith ( ) posted Wed, 05 May 2010 at 7:01 PM

I know this may seem like a really stupid question, but, could somebody remind me again what the benefits of a 64 bit system would be, other than access to more ram?

Sincerely,

David

estherau ( ) posted Wed, 05 May 2010 at 7:13 PM

software designed for 64 bit, like the rendering part of poser pro 2010 on mac (and the whole of poser pro 2010 for those lucky PC people) will use the extra ram better and work much faster supposedly.  DS will be 64 bit for mac eventually and so will vue - so they say.

Faster would be nice, but I would be happy if they just fixed the render to .mov bug that still persists.

On another note I have finished revising the script for my animation project (75 scenes over 80 pages) and have 95% of the actors needed for the voice work.  I also have started creating my characters in Daz Studio.

Overly ambitious: yes

Maybe crazy: probably

Trying to figure out how to create a lavish ballroom scene without key framing all 20 couples waltzing: stumped

How are you?

David

estherau ( ) posted Wed, 05 May 2010 at 8:55 PM

good.  working for next 2 days.
wow!  good on you!  Can you make it partially in daz and partially in poser.  Because in poser they have a way of making dependencies in the latest poser pro.  there is stuff about it at runtimedna including a semidieu script and using that you could make your couples spin around on their own axies (excuse spellng) but in time with everone else as well.
It's those large crowd scenes with specialist clothes and poses that really hold one up in creating stories I have found. I had the same problem with my casino scene.  I am just glad I'm doing a comic rather than animation.  Maybe you should consider going back to the comic idea, and just  put bits of animation on your website to encourage people to read the comic.
