Hi all
Need some info. Smith mirco is having a good sale for a upgrad to poser pro 2010. I have poser 8 and was wondering if poser pro is worth upgrading to.  what is some of the differences that are in it .  is it that much better then poser 8.  any help sure would be appreacated.

thanks for any comments.

We can't answer if it's worth it. That depends on how much extra cash you have, how much background rendering you could take advantage of, how much value you place on your time saved, and a host of other things. It's like asking if it is worth upgrading from a Nikon D90 to a D300 - the image quality is nearly identical, but the extra features and speed of the D300 add to the cost. Both take great pictures, but the D300 focuses faster, shoots faster, has more options, and supports more things in the context of a larger workflow.

The same is true of Poser Pro 2010 versus Poser 8. The image quality is nearly identical, but you'll have to do extra work (sometimes a LOT of extra work) to get the same outcome in P8 as you'd get in PP2010. It also depends on your hardware as to whether or not PP2010 is actually going to save you time rendering.

As for the differences, look here:

As an example, let's take just one feature difference - layered rendering.

As part of your workflow, do you render diffuse, specular, shadows, and reflections to separate images and then postwork them as layers in Photoshop? If no, this feature is worth ZERO to you. If yes, how often? If you do it every day, this will save you an hour a day or more. If you do this for a living (you're a PRO) and you earn $20 / hour, then in 5 days you will recover $100 of income because you work faster. But if you cannot find additional work to fill the saved hours, then you won't actually make any more money by saving time in workflow, so it again becomes worthless. However, maybe having an extra hour of time off is worth $10 per day, so now you would think it gives you back $50 / week as a result of you having more time to relax, or simply because you're less bored doing tedious things over and over.
