Subject: Interesting PP2010, MC6 in mat pose folder works with no figure

I am on a Mac. But using PP2010 loaded a prop and as expected could not use a pp2 file to change the texture without a figure in the scene. Created a new scene and changed the extensions of the pp2's to mc6 (still in the pose library directory) and loaded the prop and was able to change the texture (double click method) with NO figure in the scene.

Might have to fire up my mass replace file name software and change all pp2's to mc6's, except for the fact my runtimes are also linked up in my older versions of poser.

Poser will also check if the materials in the pose file exist and ask if you want to create the non existant materials, if you're changing the extension.

Far as I know, that's how it's been since P6.  At least, that's how it works on my P6.   Yet another reason to use mc6 instead of pp2 files, IMO.

SamTherapy's right.  That's been around for quite awhile.  As a matter of fact, it is now becoming much more preferred than MAT Poses because you can texture anything much more easily.

Poser 6 introduced the mc6 file that Poser recognized as a material and knew that it was not necessary to have a figure in the scene. pp2 files are poses and require a figure to be applied.

The ability to rename MAT pose files (pp2) to MC6 and have them work is an intentional "backward compatibility" that was built into P6 (and later)

I did not know you could apply them from the pose directory, but then i moved and renamed all of my MAT pose files to MC6s when P6 came out.

The only disadvantage i have run into is that DAZ Studio has never been able to see or use MC6 files.

Maybe I did not state it correctly. You can put an MC6 in the pose directory and leave the extension as mc6. Under P7 and the original PoserPro a file with an mc6 extension does not show up in the pose library (On a Mac. I assume the behavior is the same under win). On PP2010 files with the mc6 extension do show up if in the pose library and don't require being changed to pp2 and don't require a figure to be present to work like a pp2 files does.

IE: we have mat pose and material directories and sometimes I forget where to go look for the files to change the texture. Do I look in the materials lib or the pose lib. I happen to like staying in the preview window and pose room vs going to the materials room unless I want to edit a texture.

One of the P8 core improvements is that the Materials library is now always available, meaning there is no need to switch to the Material room to load those files.
