Subject: PoserPro2010 Another noticed glitch--help?

JAG ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2010 at 1:36 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 6:36 AM

I've just had a run-in with apparently another glitch in PP2010.  For some reason after applying some pose presets to Vic4, certain body parts stopped being poseable as if they were locked.  [they were not manually locked - and the character and the selected poses all have worked fine in P7 for many months without trouble]...anyway it appears to lock the neck and the ring and middle finger on both hands.

Now P7 used to do stuff like that, but it usually had to do with a clothing item that was conformed and unconforming it would release the affected body part and it would resume mobility...but this is not the case here.  I completely deleted each and every item and prop until nothing was left and she was still locked up.  Even applying new pose presets and hand presets did not unlock the parts.   In the old P7 similar glitch, pose presets would still apply...but you just couldn't manually move parts.

Anyway, I'm thinking this is something new and not necessarily related to the old P7 issue.

I have replaced Vic4 in the affected scene with a base V4 and once swapped out, the new Vic goes to working just fine.  It's not bad, but just apparently a little annoying.

Does anybody have a suggestion for fixing this or ideas what might be causing it?  Please let me know...and please only serious replies.  Thanks.

I had some problems with poses too, but none of them had locked parts. But I fixed my problem by applying the old pose and then save it as a new pose as that seemed to fix the problem. Maybe it can fix yours too

You can also try to turn off "Use Inverse Kinematics" before applying the pose. That also fixed some pose problems I have had.

This is an old bug. Its happened in older versions as well. Its usually manifested as the hip becomes disconnected from the legs and the legs won't pose or move but the hip can be moved. This is usually caused by a cross talk situation in which some clothes have exactly the same figure number as the figure or some other clothes.

Hmm...thanks.  It's definitely not the kinematics.  And reverse posing or reposing didn't break the lock.  And yes, I've run into that cross-talk before...and usually deleting the offending clothing item would unlock the character...but this booger didn't unlock for nothing.  In fact, the finger lock thing is peculiar since the clothing didn't even have finger gones or associated parts.  So I'm not real confident that cross talk is the problem either.   As I said, usually deleting the problem child clothing fixes that issue...and it didn't work at all.  The character eventually just had to be discarded and replaced.

I intended to start a thread on this very problem. I too am having problems with the hand poses after using "canned" poses. to tell the truth I don't know if the hands were posable before since I didn't try them, but they sure are locked up now. HELP!!!

I have spoken with BagginsBill about it and he had no clue on this one so he recommended that I report the bug to Smith Micro which I did this afternoon.  If they provide any additional help, I'll post it here.

From what I know of my own incident, the character was perfectly fine before applying the pose and it's apparently not a cross-talk issue.  Save your Pz3 file of the damaged character in case SM asks for some to work on.  I doubt they will...but they might.  I never figured out anything but character replacement, which worked.  Reload your base file using the double arrow option and the new version will work fine...but of course you've got to reconform all clothing and apply any morphs or such to the new one.  It's a pain...but that's what I ended up doing.

I have located the exact source of the error.  When you use the following option:

FIGURE  >  ZERO FIGURE

It locks Victoria 4.2's neck and middle and ring finger on both hands.  No explanation as to why, but it's undoable as far as I can tell.  The problem does not happen with Michael 4.0 or other figures, but it is consistent with Victoria.  It does it every time on my system.

If anyone else can reproduce this affect, please let me know.  I've already prepared a report to Smith Micro so the more of us with the problem, the more likely we'll get a quick fix on this matter.

In the meantime...avoid the zero figure option I guess.  Sigh...

I think I followed your instructions, and it doesn't happen for me.

Using Vic 4.2. Using menu Figure/Zero Figure. The figure reverts to zero pose, but I can still rotate the neck and all fingers.

I used various 3rd party poses and all gave me the problem. . . . well to be truthful maybe it was only one of them but once the fingers are frozen I can't get them to move

Anybody noticed the basic cube/box from the poser primitives is displaying textures as wrapped instead of cubed as in previous versions of Poser?  Anybody got any clues on how to correct this without exporting the box and remapping it?   I couldn't get it to do much myself and the manual wasn't real forthcoming on it.

Just use your older primitives. There's no reason you can't have all kinds of primitives, even with the same names.

The Box was remapped in either Poser 7 or Poser 8. This was done intentionally.

For the Locking Figure issue... anyone that can duplicate this, please contact Support with the exact Version of V4, the exact Pose that causes this. Include URL of the Product Page for the Pose. I have not been able to duplicate it. I thought I did, but was just the Focus had changed. Put Attn John in the Incident Subject.

 Sr. Rats. . .
I don't know what to say. I went back and tried everything I could remember doing starting from scratch and could not repeat the locking hand. Yet my original still retains the problem??? Go figure! At this stage I figure it must have been one of a number of canned poses I used. ( I don't remember all of them).
