Subject: How much Memory for Vue 8I?

BernieS ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2010 at 1:40 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 6:16 AM

I'm shortly going to be getting a new machine (Intel i7 930) and I'm wondering if there is any real benefit in reducing rendering times by going for 12g memory (DDR3) rather than 6g?

I've read that going for 12g reduces the amount of over clocking that can be done. Am I better sticking with 6g & going for a faster model of i7, or is 12g the better option?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Bernie

rendering times aren't really affected by the amount of RAM you have - the processor is more important although with more RAM, you can build bigger scenes and use larger textures without things grinding to a halt

I just recently bought a similar set up, i got the i7, but with 16G DDR3, and have yet to run into any hardware related problems for the first time in my history with Vue. Couldnt be happier.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

I agree the processor or number of them is more important after a certain amount of memory. If you plan to link (live link) Poser 8 or Pro 2010, you will need more than 8 GB for sure. This gets to be a huge task for both processor and memory even with only one figure. It does work nicely however.

I recently built an i7 with 12 gigs of DDR3. Windows 7 64 bit OS, 20 billion polys in a scene handles  like an empty scene. Amazing, I started with vue 4 and now have Vue 8 Inf and for the first time I can build scenes the way I want to.

Thanks for all that - it certainly looks like when it comes to memory, more is better!!!
