rendering times aren't really affected by the amount of RAM you have - the processor is more important although with more RAM, you can build bigger scenes and use larger textures without things grinding to a halt

I'm shortly going to be getting a new machine (Intel i7 930) and I'm wondering if there is any real benefit in reducing rendering times by going for 12g memory (DDR3) rather than 6g?
I've read that going for 12g reduces the amount of over clocking that can be done. Am I better sticking with 6g & going for a faster model of i7, or is 12g the better option?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Bernie
