THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Turn Off Anti-Alias

DAM3D ( ) posted Sun, 11 April 2010 at 3:00 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 7:13 PM

I searched the forums and couldn't find it, so I am posting it here in the hopes others will find it when they are looking for the answer. In Bryce, to turn off anti-alias on an object before you render it, click the A (Attributes) of the object, then hold down cntrl + Shift and click the check to close the attributes window of the object, then when you render it, that object will not be anti-aliased.

Handy feature when you want a bit of a rough edge on certain objects in a render, especially nice with terrains sometimes.

The ball on the right has anti-alias shut off.

Cool trick and I echo TheBryster's amazement.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

As far as I know this feature has always been available, I learnt about it when I printed off a heap of tips and tricks for Bryce 5 from  a website called BSolutions dont know if this site still exist as it was a few years ago. I will check it out and post a link  if its still there.

.....and if you want anti-aliasing turned back on again, click the "Attributes" button to bring up the Object Attributes, and then just click on the "check".  Anti-aliasing is now turned back on.

Wow, good info.  I've got to do at test render now.  Kitchen's book only reported not AA a single object was to do a mask and render that object separately and combine in post work.  This is so much easier.

Well poop,  yes kiwi_gg, BSolutions seems to be gone... I had it bookmarked for all its easter eggs.  boohoo

Did anyone go to the trouble to make a copy of them?  The defunct link is still in Backroom also.

erosiaart ( ) posted Sun, 11 April 2010 at 10:27 PM

thanks a ton.. great to know.
BBSolutions shut a while back.. the bookmark checker deleted it from my bookmarks.. sad...it was pretty good.
Willie..the freebie section here has some easter eggs.. the ones i used for the easter card.. poser though...

skiwillgee ( ) posted Mon, 12 April 2010 at 8:47 AM

LOL, Rosie.  Wrong kind of eggs...  By the way Steve's Art Gallery, also in Bryce Backroom has a good list of short cuts and easter eggs including the Anti-Alias one.   I copy/pasted his page to a word document in case it disappears forever like BSolution's.

Rosie, 'easter-eggs' refer to undocumented features in software applications. There are some funny ones about if you know where to look. I did hear tell of a MicroSoft one that featured photos of the programmer's children. In Bryce they are usually just key-strokes that make things happen that are not generally known.

Yeah, thanks very much Peedy, I've known about Easter eggs for... ooh almost as long as I've been using Bryce, but some of those in that link are new to me.
