Hello all, I have poser 8 and can not install V4.2 at all...its driving me nuts. When I have tried it says
needs to be installed in poser application folder which is where I am trying to put it, but then it just shuts off..."sigh"  Help

Thanks in advance :)

I know daz installers go to daz studio by default, so you have to point it to Poser 8 folder where everything is .... is this what you do? (just trying to get a clear picture) also do you use a mac or pc?

.Artemis. is right.  Unless you want to create a dummy poser.exe file (which is pretty simple) use the DAZ Studio installer and point it to where you want it to go.

Poser 8 does not need a dummy file.  Only the Pro versions do.  Take the advice of the above posts and use the DAZ Studio installer choice.

I had to make them for Poser 7 until I started using the DS Installer.  For Poser 8 I haven't installed any DAZ content yet.  Still have the free base for the Kids 4 but I've been working on a project and haven't installed them yet.

If you use the daz installer you can't go wrong, but then i wouldnt know how to install anything i get from daz without the installer, because i dont think you can access the files inside otherwise (?)

What I meant was using the installer and telling it to install to Studio but pointing it to Poser.

Before Windows Vista, programs could store their data in their c:/Program Files/Whatever folder. Vista changed that, so now they have to store the Runtime elsewhere. This helps to prevent the program from being broken by changes to the data.

Older DAZ installers check to see that a Poser.exe is in the parent directory to make sure you're installing in the right place. Victoria 4 is older. If you tell the installer that it's a DAZ Studio install it will not make that check.

Well we should wait until they reply to see if they read our posts and if it worked or not .... those installers can be a bit weird.

Thank you for all your replies, This is what I get when I try to install in poser 8 in program files or my documents where the runtime is I am using a PC running Windows 7

"When used in poser TM , "Victoria 4.2 base" must be installed to the same directory as the application executable, due to restrictions on support file locations.

Please select the directory that contains your Poser executable."

Still unable to install as of yet

This is a simple fix.  Using a text editor, create a file named Poser.txt.  Mine contains the word 'dummy' (without the quotes).  Save it to your Runtime and then rename it to Poser.exe.

That's all there is to it.  DAZ installers look for that file when using the Poser install option.

Why not just point the daz installer to the Poser 8 folder that contains the poser 8 program? i mean is Windows really that weird?, if so i'm so glad i use a Mac.

It's not a Windows issue, it's an issue with the DAZ installer.  If you choose the Poser version it does a check for Poser.exe.  If you choose the DAZ Studio version, it doesn't.

You can install to your Poser runtimes using the Studio option, you just have to point the installer to where you want the product to go.

This is an issue the DAZ created when they changed installers and decided that their characters should be in the root directory.  I know that I use Runtimes for each of my character types so installing to the root is not an option for me.
