THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: exporting booleans

Maybe I have a fundamental misunderstanding here, but...

I'm using Bryce 6.3, and I understood that it would allow you to convert booleans into meshes and export them.  I'm unable to do that.

Here's what I did:  I created a cube, and made its attributes positive...made a negative sphere, grouped them together.  It renders like a cube with a spherical bit out of it.  Then I click on "convert Boolean to mesh" and it transforms just like it should.  Then I go to Menu: file: Export Object, and nothing happens.  "Export Object" is illuminated, and I'm able to click on it, but nothing happens.

If I make a boolean group with two terrains, or with a terrain and a cube, the same thing happens...or I should say doesn't happen.

If I import an object, like a cylindar made in another program, make it positive and group it with a negative cube, everything looks good, and it even exports.  but when  Ire- import the same object, it is the original cylindar, with no boolean subtraction.

Dou you group the cube and sphere?
You have to, in order to have the pos/neg work.
Then you can easily export, as far as I know.
And it should re-open as the grouped export.

Does that make sense?

If you will re-read my post, you will see that I grouped the cube and sphere, and rendered the result as a positive-negative boolean.

To follow up, I just installed Bryce 7, and had none of the problems I had in Bryce 6.3.  I am still interested to know why 6.3 didn't  work.

Oops, sorry.

I still use 6.1, so I can't help you on 6.3

That's very strange. It appears that you are doing things correctly. Sorry, stratchy-head thing I'm afraid.

My B6.3 duplicates the same problem as described.  I had never exported created boolean objects before so I didn't realize a problem.

I too can import objects then export that same object but not so if the coverted group was created in the scene.  Puzzling.

Is there anyone with B6.3 that can export the stuff?

I'm sure I exported stuff in this way with no problem, but it was a long while back.

 Hello
I think that I have read somewhere (perhaps in the DAZ forums?) that Bryce 6.3 had a bug with exporting booleans.

The bug was/is that while you can export a booleaned group when you import it back to Bryce it doesn't behave like a normal 'solid' object.

i'm away from my Bryce at the moment, but does Collapsing the mesh before exporting help?
