Subject: OT: Why not much activity in the DAZ Studio forum?

josterD ( ) posted Mon, 26 April 2010 at 8:40 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 8:15 PM

I guess i'm gonna have to pump it up cause i use DAZ Studio and i'm sure others do too.
Is the DAZ Studio base really small or why is this forum relatively inactive compared to the POser forum?

I think most DS people post at the DAZ forums

I always felt this was more of a 'help' section, so while I read the posts, I don't always respond.  The DAZ community is very active over on the DAZ website, so I think most DAZ users hang out there.  Yes, once you fall in love DAZ it's hard to tear yourself away from it, and back into the 'real' world. 😉

There's lots of us here...but right now the newest beta is being tested so there is more going on at Daz with people using the new version and reporting on it.

[yawns!]... who woke me? I must have been sleeping again.

We are here, probably dormant but here. Many will probably be found at DAZ but the remaining stragglers are here. Maybe we need some encouragement to get started or maybe a challenge.

So you have opened this subject, how about keeping it going. Any takers?

The challenge sounds good...

also could be that most rendo members are probably poser users more than daz users too and then there are the ones like me that are busy trying to make saleable products in daz that keep them busier than cats on hot tin roofs

Yes, we DAZ folks are a greedy little bunch.,  I counted my models and it seems I have over 500! But, you just never know when you might need that 'certain' model.

lol I take your point on Daz being addictive.. am not sure I've returned to the real world since opening it up, although my connection to reality was probably tenuous at best anyway.

I've seen a couple of other threads rolling around regarding a lack of Daz contests over here at Rendo. I'm only a very new vendor here with (currently) a tiny store, but as a primary Daz user, I'm more than happy to offer up a product as a prize if anybody wants to run one now, or indeed pretty much anytime in the future.

Just msg me if there's an interest :)

Hi josterD,

I'm a DAZ Studio user since the first release but I spent more time in Poser forum than DAZ Studio forum.  For me, 3 major reasons, the most important one is DAZ Studio use the same contents as Poser, there is no sense to talk about something I did for DAZ Studio, since it can be used in Poser as well; another one is DAZ Studio is easier to use, therefore less technical problems than Poser; in additional, the people at Poser forum are so nice, they don't mind I talked about DAZ Studio there.

In fact, the same happen at DAZ Studio related forums hosted at DAZ.

Watch DAZ Animation

I am working on a music video and cannot find enough good quality dance moves. I have some which are good, but need cropping just so I get the right moves that make sense. Here is a link to a small sample of the video and any ideas will be greatly welcomed.

Well i love DAZ.

I recently found a great technique to animate my characters.

But i have some problem with Turns. character facing one way and then facing another. Whenever i try doing keyframe animation and then tur the character around, everything goes wacko..
Also, i have problems animating the turn because when humans turn, they kind of lift their legs as if taking steps..

ONe thing i did was that since i bought Walk aniblocks that include turn aniblocks, i added a turn aniblock , doesn't look that great because it's originaly intended to walk in a circle  then face the other direction, and not to just turn in place. But i cut it up and then i went to LVL 1 of the aniblock and in the end keyframe I turned him completely around. that kind of worked.
Anyone have any tips for that?

Looks pretty cool, Avros.  What's the title of the music and name of the performer?

I would suggest you mix the edit up with some long shots, medium shots, and closeup shots.  Cutting from one medium shot to another medium shot of same character might be considered a "jump cut."  However, the audio appears to make up for the (lack of) continuity.

Jump cuts are jarring to the viewer and should be used sparingly.  However, if you know what you're doing, jump cuts can be used very effectively.  It's a certain device of telling a story in a stylish way, for maximum impact.

Fourth day into my second project.  I think I'm pooped.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_tZx0IKG4U Check it out here!

josterD, I have the same problem.  aniMate does go wacko.  I'm not sure if that is the script in the "free version" (versus the "purchased version").

Anyone know what is up with that?  I love making hot (or cold, if you prefer) Cylon chicks, but I can't dream of Cylons all day.

Other than that, DAZ3D seems to a-okay.

The music in my video is called 'Burnout" royalty-free music I found at  http://www.audiomicro.com

Thanks for the comments and I agree with you, being my first it was a trial to see how easy it was to use the Animate tools. I will be creating some more moves for the next video, but for this one I just used what was available to me then. I have seen some really fantastic video like the LOVE video at YouTube and was inspired to see how easy or hard it would be.

Off to visit the links you posted here, thanks everyone.

I like the dance Avros, but the face is a bit static and distracting. I'd say have her looking from the camera to what her hands are doin, the floor, kinda thing? Not much just subtly, and maybe an expression of concentration, except when she looks at the camera and flashes a smile.

There's lots of Daz users here, but I suspect most don't look at the forums. I do when I think about it.

The dance moves look great but it really bugs me that you put absolutely no time into changing her facial expressions through the entire animation. It's really not that hard to apply random small changes to her facial expressions through the whole length of the animation to give her some life. Add a smile at frame 1, pucker her lips aft frame 50, throw in some blinks from time to time, go back to the smile or part her lips. Anything.
