thats to bad, a real loss of true talent there... :(

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

One of the all time greats (and one of my favourite fantasy artists.)  The world just got a little bit greyer

A great Fantasy Artist, who will be remembered through his works.

A sad loss.

He was a household name with comicbook and fantasy art fans in the 70s.

But I think he was also to blame for the most of the NVIATWAS pictures. Mostly kidding. I loved his art. The derivatives not so much.

His figures were always in proper context.  People wanting to improve their Poser renders could learn a lot from his work.

Well said. I sure appreciated his art as well, still do. You can stare at it for days.

His characters are always in motion.  Even if they seem to be standing still, they are always moving.  It could be something as simple as shifting their weight even.  I'll have to get that DVD of his last interview.

Are you talking about "Painting With Fire", the documentary o his life? It is a must see for all Frazetta fans. It is included in the two disc special edition DVD of Ralph Bakshi's "Fire and Ice" animated film.

Frank lived an amazing life and left behind more to inspire and motivate the rest of us than most people who ever exit this mortal coil.  He did what most artist should aspire to. He was amazingly prolific and gifted. I believe both his poses and figures should be well studied.

This is too weird.  I'd come across references to Frazetta occasionally like everyone else.  I hadn't thought of his stuff in many years.  A couple of weeks ago I found the book "Legacy/Selected Paintings & Drawings by Frank Frazetta" at my library, possibly just days afterward.
The book outlines his many other lesser known works as well.  Like, I have the LP of the Peter Sellers movie "After the Fox", and there's a cartoon on it of the various characters in the film...done by guess who!  Here I was looking at this thing off and on for years, and didn't even realize.
Though I'm not into fantasy art much, it's true, a lot can be learned from studying his stuff, particularly dramatic lighting and posing.

Most definitely. I use it as my first reference for any fantasy work. The man knew how to render bodies, something that should be of great interest to Poser users.

I loved his work the first time I saw one of his book covers.  I always drew as a kid, but he made me want to be an artist.
