Subject: Who Mourns Apollo?

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 7:02 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 8:05 PM

Just wondering if anyone had any news if the updated Apollo Maximus will ever be released?  I still like Apollo and would like the have the revised version some day.  I also have a lot of Apollo content.

Who mourns Apollo?  I do, he was one of the best male figures ever created.

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 7:21 AM

No news.  And it may well appear that there will never be an update.  Rumors were circulating around the release of M4, but nothing since then.

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 7:25 AM

That's a shame, I actually paid for Apollo when he was first released in 2005, I've always felt that he was a special figure.

lover3d ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 7:28 AM

Apollo is a wonderful figure, maybe we need to make an apollo forum something like posetteforever and create our own updates ie morphs and the like.

My concern about Apollo is that since he's non-distributable, if Anton takes his site down, he's gone...

Apollo has always been swirling in controversy, I don't know why, but forums about him always seems to bring out the flamers.    Unless the newer version is released I expect that we can just expect him to fade into oblivion; content creators rarely make anything new for him.

lover3d ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 7:40 AM

I can try to make some morphs or textures, any requests?

wolf359 ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 7:49 AM

Unfortunately due to  all of the Varying Drama's surrounding it
that figure became $$$Commercially $$$non viable for third party content creators **a long time ago.
**
and with no apparent updates from the figure's creator
the figure future seems grim IMHO
But perhaps a "posette forever" type community for dedicated Apollo users might be an option.

I agree it's a shame Apollo is fading into obscurity. In many ways he was / is a superior figure. As for the flaming I'd say that Anton fanned a lot of the flames himself, especially with the Clark1 debackle, but that doesn't change the fact that Apollo has some features not normally seen in other Poser figures. I'm looking foward to Brad, he has the potential to be even better than Apollo ever was. Whether or not he'll get support is another question. Problem is that male figures generally gets a lot less support than the ladies. I guess their lack of bewbage is a problem L

Brad?  That's a new one on me.  Will he be released soon?

I'm a collector of obscure Poser figures.  I have Vincent Parker, Rikkishi (with his add on packs), and some others.

Another figure I hope goes into further development is Behemoth 2.  I like  his more human face better than the original version.

tomsde what whould you like to see for apollo? i still think he is a viable figure.

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 8:40 AM

I would like to see a wider variety of facial expressions.  A more morphable face.  As far the as the body goes I would like to see more muscular definition.

lover3d ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 8:42 AM

Actually his face is very morphable, most people use the parameters at its fullest capicity. if you dial smaller numbers you get very fantastic results.

infinity10 ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 8:44 AM

I could still use Apollo Maximus any time.  My runtimes for him are still intact and on standby.

Tomsde ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 8:46 AM

Yeah the moving the dials backwards always did throw me off.

lover3d ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 8:47 AM

And btw with Zbrush and or the morph brush the possibilities are limitless for creating great apollo faces or bodies.

wolf359 ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 9:04 AM

Quote - I.  As far the as the body goes I would like to see more muscular definition.

That was the figures biggest flaw.

and the morph brush was not introduced until poser 7
and not everyone has the funds to buy & learn Zbrush just
to add Muscular Anatomy Details that should have been included  in
"the ultimate poser figure", from the very beginning.

Pakled, FYI, I just wanted to let you know that the free Mil 4 figures Daz gives away, unlike the Gen 3 figures, do come with basic facial morphs--but you do have to pay if you want any body morphs.

Yeah, Phantom3D is making Brad. There's a dedicated thread here with a title that doesn't lend itself well to knowing what's lurking there.

carodan ( ) posted Fri, 21 May 2010 at 5:55 PM

All politics aside, Apollo was and still is a great figure - very morphable and well produced. I still use him a lot.
I secretly hoped Anton might one day redesign certain aspects of his mesh to make some of that muscle definition more feasible without use of displacement.
Have to say, I doubt any further updates to Apollo will be on the horizon. To my knowledge Anton hasn't been making Poser content for at least a couple of years now, or been visiting any of these communities. Who knows though.

Phantom3d's figure work looks very promising - keeping a keen eye open for Brad.

Well maybe if people keep talking about him, Apollo may be reborn yet again.  I'd lost hope of seeing him ever again when the 2007 version came out.

I checked out Brad and was most impressed by his rigging (no pun intended).  Bad boy looks interesting too.

pakled ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2010 at 12:36 AM

ok...I'll fess up. I understand basic morphs (creating obj files), but inj/rem kinda confuses me. As I understand it (and P5 regularly blows up over it...;) inj/rem usually requires you to purchase this or that package, in order to work with any of the base characters. If I ever try using Inj/rem anything, Poser hangs, and eventually gives up.

Actually, the previous 'pakled' avatar I used was done with M3, base figure. I probably spent a good hour or so trying to get it to work. Lotsa dial-spinning, but aside from the standard expressions in the Pose section, I had to make do.

Still, I use either character with abandon, though finding clothes, textures, etc., that work in P5 for male characters in general isn't nearly as easy as female characters.

that's true, maybe something in his life changed that has more priority
you see that often, when people get married, have children etc etc

carodan ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2010 at 7:05 AM

That's life. A good shake up of who you are and what you're doing from time to time is a positive thing, even if it's motivated by negative or turbulent experiences.

just to say: i have more DAZ version 3 female characters than i can reasonably count, and about 37 DAZ version 4 female characters.  i even have a decent amount of DAZ version 2 female  characters, and a few female characters for other figures like Miki, Maya Doll, and others.  i have some definite holes thinking internationally, but i can probably manage them given what i have already.

i have about 8 version 4 male characters, about twice that number of version 3 male charaters, and maybe 5 version 2 male characters.  i have no more than 2 textures for Apollo.  i need more female textures like i need a hole in the head, but i just acquired the free Boris (thanks to Capsces!) and want to work more with Apollo.  more texture/character support for Apollo, M2, and just about any male figure would be more than welcome, imho.

I started putting together an extensive face morph package at one point.  This was an early preview, the roster has expanded substantially sense then. It started out just being things I'd done for my own personal use, mainly different superheroes, but then I'd see things that other people were doing for the 4th gen daz figures, people like raw, and wondered if I couldn't duplicate similar morphs with Apollo.

"But Anton has no obligation  to "return" to poser

Agreed.

He had a rough time of it, both in inter-personal and professional relationships (and IMHO brought most of it upon himself ** ), but the man did know how to make mesh.

I remember he was talking about making a separate female figure as well (not just a female morph). Never knew what happened to that.

Ah well. People move on after a very long time, some drift in and out (that would be me), some flame out, and some just hang around forever. Just the way it is. The last time I was consistently active here was in 2005. The last time I was consistently active in Poserdom period ended early last year, when my (then new) job had me architecting, then building, a complete IT infrastructure (while at the same time dragging my carcass between two different states and two different countries in order to do it). Let's just say it was hella busy - finally began to come down to something sane early this month.

I hadn't heard/seen 'boo' from Anton since mid/late 2006, and even then it was starting to get less and less frequent.

If he wants to come back, he'll come back. If not, not. Meanwhile, others have risen (see also phantom3D.) If he does come back, cool - I look forward to seeing what he can come up with.

** Don't expect me to expound, elaborate, expand, or explain. Let's just leave it as it is, and that's as far as I'm going describe it.

mathman ( ) posted Sat, 22 May 2010 at 8:55 PM

And having a website "Apollo Forever" (maybe as a "brother site" to PosetteForever ?) sounds like a great idea.
